Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: June 08, 2016, 04:57:13 PM »

Temp's was in the mid 50's this morning and not a cloud in the sky. I've not rode my Interstate for several months and it was needing the oil stirred up . This old place is about 5 miles from my house and is the oldest home / business in the county I live in . In 1780, twin brothers, David and Samuel Hall; fought together in the Battle of Kings Mountain, considered to be the “turning point in the South” of the Revolutionary War. A year later, the Revolutionary War ended and, although confrontations with Indians continued throughout much of the Carolinas and Tennessee, the brothers began thinking about a more peaceful future for themselves. In 1784 David Hall married. Hall served his country well as a soldier and an Indian spy and for it the government awarded him 428 acres in Tennessee. At about the same time, in 1795, Samuel Hall bought 100 acres in the Claxton, TN. area from Aquila Lowe. This marked the beginning of the Hall brothers in this area and the beginning of David Hall’s log cabin that has stood the test of time for over 200 years. David Hall built his log cabin home with an inn and tavern next door. And, the amazing thing is: it’s still there! And, if walls could talk, what a tale that cabin’s walls would tell.

After leaving the David Hall Cabin I rode pass the cemetery that my friend Dirtweed is buried in and thought I need to vist my friend. We had some wild times back in the day and he was one of my best friends and that still stands today he crosses my mind all the time. His stone had a metal picture with him in his Navy uniform I guess the lawnmower guy took care of that . Hard to believe its been 32 years ... 25 years old he left too soon.

Hooked up with my ridin' bud David after he saw me make a post on Facebook and sent me a message. The ride was on we took some nice old country backroads a few that I've never been on and ended up at McCloud Mountain for lunch. This is a cool place to check out. With soaring cliffs and majestic arches, Mt. Cloud Mountain is an awe-inspiring place to visit.  It may be one of the South’s best-kept secret. Mt. Cloud and McCloud Mountain Restaurant & Lodge is located on a 1300 acre tract of land at an elevation of 2700 feet, atop the Cumberland Mountains, and just a few miles to the northeast of La Follette, Tennessee. From the top you can get a breathtaking view of the valley below, Norris Lake, House Mountain, Clinch Mountain, the Great Smoky Mountains and Knoxville, Tennessee.... If you want to check this place out you need reservations. I guess it was a slow day and David talked the guard into calling and doing it for us. Outstanding buffalo cheese burger that's priced reasonable and our cute waitress was great. Pictures below taken from the skywalk.

" The Money Shot "   This is the road sign going up McCloud Mountain.

cooldude Nice report ! I think I've learned more about your area of the country reading your reports than my 12 years of school. Love that sign, I'm surprised somebody hasn't lifted it.  Smiley

Been there plenty of times. Did the guy at the guard station ask if you had reservations?   Grin Buffalo burgers are good for the money. You pay more for the view then the food though.
