So today is High School Graduation for my oldest daughter. For 4 years she has been 1st in her class and today she is the Valedictorian of about 450 students. The real amazing part is she is going back to back with my son who graduated last year, he also was Valedictorian.
There's 2 more years to go until my youngest graduates and she is working her way up the class rankings, she was 7th in the middle of the year and seems to be determined to get into the top 3.
Never in our wildest dreams did we ever expect any of this, all we ever wanted was for them to try their best and to be good kids, I guess there are some angels on our shoulders.

There very well may be angels on your shoulders. But I suspect there are some pretty good parents under those Angels. Congratulations to your family.

Congratulations to them and you. I also think this kind of thing does not happen without good (or great) parents.

#1 out of 450 is pretty impressive indeed, also hope she got some scholarship money out of that as well.
My graduating daughter a few weeks ago was like #4 or so out of only 22 kids in her high school class, but she still received about 9 scholarships worth 6K from doing other stuff in school besides just hitting the books. The #1 Valedictorian only received 1 other award/scholarhip, but being #1 did earn her 9K in a scholarship.
My soon to be sophomore in his class as of now, is #1 as well or for sure #2, but once again, only about 20 kids in his class as well. He went to the graduation and after finding out #1 receives around 9K depending on the year/funds available, he said he will strive a tad bit harder as well having something to shoot for.
Mommy and daddy are not made of money as evident by the 16K per year tuition and room/board/lunch fees, etc. per year at a UW 4 year degree school she is going to in September to become a teacher, yet another non-high paying job.

Congrats to the kids! No doubt, they have to want to do well to score well on anything in life. Credit is given where credit is earned. I've always said that parenting is the toughest job on the planet if, you give a damn. Obviously, you and the other half of your team worked hard to rear them right. Congratulations to you and her also.

Congrats are certainly in order for the kids. They had to work hard and consistant to get there. Also, it's very evident that they had some great guidance from the parents... Congrats to both kids and parenting.

Thanks everyone.
We started with them when they were little, they loved to be read to especially Dr. Seuss. I can still picture my daughter Nicole running down the hall to her room for another book in her purple onesie PJ's w/ her diaper swishing the whole way. Then as years went on they read by themselves and they learned about the library and school book sales. I think the real turn was when they got the Harry Potter books, they would finish those in a couple days on their own and re-read them too.
We always knew each of them were their own person so over the years we learned how each one liked to do their work. My son, beginning in 6th or 7th grade liked being by himself in the basement, my daughter who graduated yesterday took over our dining room as her own work space in about 7th grade and it's been her place to be for 6yrs. We would help with quizzes/test prep when necessary as well as see to it the didn't procrastinate too much (it's a family trait) and we made sure they knew school work came first. After a while it seemed they came to us less and less and were on cruise control.
Since classes in HS begin at 6:50am we made sure they got plenty of sleep and encouraged them to nap when they got home at 2:30pm (when they could) for and hour or two.
With the exception of all three not liking to put their laundry away and their rooms being a bit untidy they are 3 of the best kids in the world and they have exceeded all of our hopes and dreams and I hope there will be doors that open to them so their hopes and dreams come true to them.

I don't think any kid could hope for better parents than that.
