The very first time my dad and mom attempted docking their new (used) Lightning sailboat, they came in with too much wind, too fast, dropped the sail too late, caught the mast stay wires on a piling, and split the wood mast in three pieces, top to bottom.  I was a kid, and thought that my dad never used any bad language.... but I was wrong that day.
