Need some suggestions or insight on new insurance. I've been with Allstate for 32 years so I haven't really kept up with the different companies. My auto insurance has just risen by 51% from one renewal period to the next, supposedly my bike insurance will see a similar increase on the next renewal period. The reason given for the increase is basically due to the rising cost of doing business in Georgia.

Every person with Allstate will see increases up to 58% beginning this period. To me that's a bit much.

I'm seeking advice or recommendations for other providers based on experience of members of this board. Allstate appears to want to make it uncomfortable for all types of coverage as deductibles on just about everything has really risen.

If you can qualify (Basically, a veteran, child of a veteran, or if you can spell veteran Wink ) give USAA a good hard look:

https://www.usaa.com/

They don't directly offer motorcycle insurance (yet?) but they arrange motorcycle insurance through Progressive, and their auto insurance can't be beat. Multiple times I've had sales droids from other insurers trying to sell me on theirs ask me who I'm currently with, and when I tell them they just flat out say "Never mind, I can't touch their prices or service."

(From their website: Active Military
Individuals who are currently serving in the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines or Navy.
Former Military
Those who have retired or separated from the U.S. military with a discharge type of Honorable.
Family
Widows, widowers and un-remarried former spouses of USAA members who had USAA auto or property insurance while married and individuals whose parents have or had USAA auto or property insurance.
Cadets and Midshipmen
Cadets and midshipmen at U.S. service academies, in advanced ROTC or on ROTC scholarship, plus officer candidates within 24 months of commissioning)

shop around is all I can say,  I also use to have Allstate in WI for years until they went up a lot as well and now they are back down, well almost.

I have had Progressive,  Liberty Mutual, and currently Geico now.

give them all a call worth a look and several others am sure.

Good luck,  I have switch insurance companies like 4 times the past 8 years or so since I know how a 20% or more jump is and NOT right thru now fault of our own just giving you a B.S. statement like we had more claims in your area/region thus having to increase costs in my area as well sob story.

Because insurance (companies) costs vary so much state to state (and each state has it's own insurance regulatory agency), advice about individual companies and costs across state lines can be foolish and inaccurate.  (except I would recommend USAA anywhere, except I will not do business with Progressive, so I have Geico on my bikes)

First, sit down and decide exactly what coverages you want (so you don't shop apples and oranges), then shop around and see what you can get.  You might want to visit some blogs to see what people have to say about the quality of service (hassle and fighting over claims) inside your particular state.  A company that pays legitimate claims fast in a professional manner is better than one that will screw you if they can, and is worth paying a bit higher premium, but not twice as high.

Because you risk everything you own every time you get in your cage (but not on your bike) (thanks to liability lawyers), I carry much higher coverage on my cage than my bikes.  If you don't carry passengers (other than your wife) and don't hit pedestrians, or wreck your bikes, you don't really need much coverage on motorcycles.  I can't remember the last time I read a headline about a bike killing a buss load of people.

I have not had a claim since 1972 (except I may have got a windshield since then), so I guess I just pay premiums for a warm feeling (down my leg) (and then there's the small matter of obeying the law).

Please make sure you get completely clear details of accessory cover!!!

If told you will get only ACV - Actual Cash Value - be aware that this means after a BIG Depreciation.

American Modern paid me 20% of value.

This applies to everyone. Please check you policy, talk to your agent/broker.

Check with an independent agent.  All the companies mentioned above are sold only thru their own captive agents.  If you find a good independent agent, they will represent several different companies that they have vetted and with whom they have formed relationships, not the biggies that you see advertising nightly that can provide better coverage at lower cost.  My agent reviews my policy a couple of times a year and if one of their companies can improve my coverage, he moves me.
