Us and 2 other couples headed out to Prescott in a roundabout journey. We had breakfast at the Hualapai Mtn. Lodge. Then headed towards Wikieup and Bagdad. By this time it was up to 110* but I pulled my trailer with 100 lbs. of ice and water. After Bagdad we headed towards Prescott by way of Skull Valley.  This was our photo op at an old station in Skull Valley. We stayed at the Hotel St. Michael. It is supposed to be haunted, but we saw nothing. This is their elevator, it is supposed to have the most spirits. But again nothing. After partying the night on Whiskey Row we headed back towards home the next day.    These are from a lookout coming down from Yarnell back into the desert. Then the real fun began. 150 miles across the desert at 115*. Everything was going about as good as could hoped for until the couple that were visiting from Tennesee ran over something and cut the rear tire. 25 miles from home on the hiway shoulder.  Luckily we still had plenty of ice and water as we waited for the tow truck. I improvised some Arab DoRags out of some microfiber cloths I had.   After what seemed like forever we were loaded up and on the way home. All in all it was a fun trip. I`m really glad our friends didn't lose control after cutting the tire. |

Nice, looks like a great ride despite the tire issue. Good thing the tire didn't send them to the pavement. To stay up with 1 can be scarey but 2 he knows his stuff.  The make due durag and a blessing to be only 25 miles from home.  There you go! By the way my wife has some cousins out your way in Lake Havasu. Do you know some Days? We are in Milton, FL next to our Bagdad! No kidding.....  Be safe. |

Yeah I imagine the kids take up a lot of your time. I only had 2 and didn't get much riding when they were young. |

Looks like a great ride wish I was there. I bought my 02 Valk in Phoenix but Had a new GW that I bought in Prescott in 99. I have ridden that route many times along with the Jerome ride, Lover riding Az. Usually got over 20000 miles a year . I lived in Prescott Valley for 9 years. Last time there I got stopped on Yarnell hill by a cop for speeding. I was with my son and leading so he let my son go and after talking and joking with him he let me go also. Is the little restaurant still at the top of the hill in Yarnell?

Nice report on what appears to be a very nice outing! Glad things worked out for y'all, especially the tire thing. Those little 'ah shucks' incidents can sure change the overall tenor of a ride in a hurry, but they can also produce some fond memories for later... Looks like that's what happened here...
Like others have said, I too like touring Arizona... only... NOT this time of year!!! I'm what I call a 'heat refugee', so while I do get out to AZ from time to time, it is always between late Sept and early May. You and other 'desert rats' keep telling me it ain't that bad if you know how to deal with it... that idea just does not resonate with this dude! Nope, for me the northwest and Canada, especially western provinces, hold all of the appeal for me in summertime...
Thanks for taking us along... Even though I broke out in a sweat just reading your report, I still enjoyed the visuals created before my mind's eye... Let's do it again sometime!

What ? I thought I looked rather dashing with the fluorescent orange head rag. I've found the evap vests are good but a long sleeve sweatshirt is even better. I was also loading up ziplock bags with ice and putting thing on the back of the neck. But they would slide down my jacket and I'd have a nice cold butt crack for 50 miles. I am thinking a tubular bag with ice draped over the neck and chest is in the works. |

You guys riding around in AZ or FL, etc. even say in 'the dry' heat with low humidity is still 110+ degrees no matter how I look at it. Am sure over time, you get somewhat use to it, but the one time I was in Fl/Al (gulf shores) in early June being over 90 degrees by 8 a.m. is something not so sure I would ever get used to. I did somewhat get 'sort of' acclimated to it after 1 week there, but not so sure I could day it year round. I'd rather drive in 45 degree temps vs. over 90 degrees any day. Am sure the southern states would say the same thing of upper midwest in winters for 4-5 months of non-riding a cycle since 10-20 degrees out or so.  |
