Well it's time for my first long-ish ride on my new-to-me 98 Valkyrie.

Planning on heading over to Anacortes, WA tomorrow morning, up over the Cascade Mountains and into Winthrop. From there I have a few days to just ride, ride, ride. Idaho? Oregon?

Going to load the Valk with tent and sleeping bag, and just see what the road brings.

I've got my trusty tool kit and will pick up a tire repair kit along the way. Looking forward to stopping at the Bent Bike in Lynwood, WA on the way home, my favorite bike shop.

I'll let you guys know how it went when I return and who knows... if I get lazy and stay in a hotel, I might post a pic or two.

Good luck Draeger.  Assume your going solo.  I've been wanting to take my first extended trip since 1972 for a year or more.  Having trouble convincing the wife she will be better off without me crazy2  Be safe, stay cool.  you should use an app like spotwalla so friendsand anyone interested can track you.  Well spotwalla is a web site, which app you use depends on if you have an android or iPhone.  It will keep a permanent record of your trip online and watchers only need click on a link that's generated to track you in real time in 5 minute intervals.  Here is a link to a ss1000 I did a while back as an example. https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=b9345546d62f53da4  has a lot of capabilities and makes for a great memory.  Wish I had something like from 72  Roll Eyes

Hey Draeger, too bad you couldn't have made the Valhalla gathering this weekend in Port Angeles....was a great couple of days, would've enjoyed meeting you. If you're looking for suggestions, one would be to stay on 20 up through Republic WA (via 97) and head East through Northern ID. #20 and #2 from there are outstanding routes with relatively little traffic and lots of neat little towns to pass through/stay at. Have a great ride  cooldude

The standard bike tire kits are OK, but the screwdriver handle plugger/reemers can be very hard on your hands pushing through steel belts.  I recommend larger T-handle plugger/reemer tools; so much more power can be applied with them.  Not that much larger to carry.  Any auto parts store.

OK.

Better.

Have fun.  cooldude

I have that kit and it has done me well.  The only down side is that the reamer is difficult to use on my steel-belted car tires, and is quickly dulled by the steel belts.  I need to find a T-handle reamer as mentioned by Jess from VA.

If you're going to Idaho, highway 12 between Missoula, Montana and Lewiston, Idaho is one awesome road.  Might want to carry a little spare fuel.

Looks like a good tool.   I go with Ride On in the recommended dose for the tire size, plus a little more.  It will do a good job for most common punctures, dampens road vibrations due to the surface finish, and balances the tire also.

Had to head back earlier than I planned for some family stuff... but it was a great trip. Highway 20 over the Cascades, down to Hwy 410 behind Mt Ranier and then over to Olympic Peninsula for a third night of camping.

The Valk ran awesome... all I had to do to it was tighten the odd bolt and some silicone tape on the crash bar made a great leg stretch rest for the long, straight parts. Awesome bike!

Looking forward to a longer trip in August...

Nice pics Draeger...looks like you had a nice little run. Next time you're on the mainland drop me a PM, maybe we can hook up for a coffee or a ride.
