That rider should have been able to slow down faster than that pad can...

He had only been riding for 2 weeks. He should have never been close to that boat. I see stuff flying out of boats almost on a daily basis here. I try to keep my distance from them and from landscapers hauling crap on trailers. At least the rider had a helmet.

If he hadn't turned at all his line of travel would have cleared the object.

But first of all, that should not have fell off at all.

I believe that his turning towards the rolled up, was it a raft or pad thing?, was a target fixation issue.
I mean he drove right into it.

Good to see the guy got up after that. Could have been way worse with the traffic.

Yeah it took a long time for him to hit the brakes.

The load appeared to be moving left
The rider was in the left of the lane
He moved right
Then the load turned to the right

If he had been checking his mirrors regularly I agree he could have jumped his bike over to that middle lane  Myself I would have been passing before getting that close in the 1st place

But really, how many of us are anticipating that to happen.

Well now we will but....   At least with my hit-air I probably wouldnt break as many ribs  .25 seconds after coming off bike to full inflation

(3 seconds seems like a lot, because it is)

I hope you never get the chance to test that vest out. Being 20 years old was in his favor as far as absorbing the punishment. It wasn't in his favor for avoiding the crash though.

Looked like target fixation to me.
I once had a pick up pull out in front of me pulling a trailer with a full shower with surround on the trailer and it wa spied down and I started to see it start bucking and didn't have time to slow and it lifted off the trailer straight up and I fed all 6 carbs all they could take and went under it to look in my rear view to see fiberglass explode all over the pavement behind me. Take about a butt pucker moment tickedoff tickedoff

And......look at it again and notice his riding attire. Pretty typical for a ZipSplat rider.

Been riding since '82.  Had my share of whatever...A couple of weeks ago I was rounding a uphill left hand  sweeper on two lane road.  Berms had not been mowed.  I was at about 45 when a deer damn forest rat jumped out of the weeds and grass heading straight into my intersecting path, going left to right.  I had no time to think about it, but training told me if I hit the brakes or went right it wouldn't be good.   There was no traffic coming toward me, and luckily I was in a lower gear on my vtx 1300.  Instead of going where the rat was or should be, I dived hard into the turn with a full twist on the throttle.  Missed on the inside by about two feet.  Always keep eyes moving, scanning for threats, and be ready to react.
