My laptop is less than a year old. It's a pretty speedy HP.
I'm losing patience with so many web sites, especially news sites, that try to load so much crap onto their web pages it takes my laptop a long time to let the web page load.
No problem with this site, Facebook, and some others. It seems to be just the news web sites with all the crap ads littering so much of each web page.
Suggestions apart from don't go to the web sites. Thanks.

I like Firefox because it allows add-ons. Some other browsers are capable of this as well. Get one and go to add-ons in the menu, and seek out and install an ad blocker plugin. It'll help considerably, but some sites require ads and you'll occasionally have to disable the blocker. Great for news sites and the like.

Firefox with NoScript and Adblock extension. Blocks out all the unwanted crap from loading.

Got rid of Chrome.
Now to get rid of Duck Duck Go which can be a bit weird when it tells me it can't find a simple search like Home Depot.

Don't give up on Firefox... there's a gear wheel up at the top right of a newly opened tab that will allow you to get rid of the new tab behavior you object to...

I use Fire fox and have no troubles with Win 7. For popup blocker, as other have mentioned Adblock Plus... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/I very rarely see any ads. I do see cookies and such getting loaded. I suppose you could turn cookies off, but I don't know what that will do to the 'browsing experience'...

Upper right there's an icon of 3 horizontal lines, click on it. Click on Options from that menu. On the left click on Search. Select the default search engine you find least offensive.

Firefox + Adblock seems to ahve cut down the crap trying to laod.
I went to breitbart.com. A web site I use very rarely and one of the worst "crap loaders". No crap loading lag.
Thanks guys. Now to get rid of bloody Yahoo.

I was about to suggest these same plugins. Chrome or Firefox. I use Microsoft's Edge or IE browsers for those sites that won't load if you have those elements blocked. Firefox with NoScript and Adblock extension. Blocks out all the unwanted crap from loading.

I get that too taking way too long to load my news station since too many ads appearing on my 7 year old windows 7 HP laptop.
Not to hijack thread, but along those lines, I have version 9 or so for internet explorer and some websites now I can open but if click on anything on the webpage, it boots me out and tells me to install latest version of interent explorer or even mozilla firefox, another web browser I rarely use.
Thus, I think some websites are starting to block information for windows 7 users UNLESS they update to windows 10 since when I try clicking on updated internet explorer, it states I am already on the latest version of it for windows 7.
Any ideas besides upgrading to windows 10 which I do NOT want to do on a 7+ year old laptop that still runs o.k.? Some websites I really would like to see what it has on it can be valuable but does not come up stating me to upgrade to latest version of internet explorer (or mozilla firefox) but then states on latest version so has to be I guess (NOT SURE?) to upgrade to new windows 10??

Use Firefox or do what I did and install Chrome. https://www.google.com/chrome/

You do not want to update, but you want to have all the options that are available to to the updated operating systems. You can't have both. Having a 7 year old laptop is like driving a 1992 Lebaron convertible. If you want ABS, you have to upgrade. (I got rid of my '92 Lebaron ragtop last year.) PS, you really ought to try Mozilla Firefox--great browser I always use.

You don't want that. If it hits we are screwed big time. If you have a farm, horse buggies an draft horses you may be ok but don't bet on it.
