here's a little video shot by a drone, over the little lake I live on. a group of residents decided to put on a show of their own. the video is just a few min, but believe me, they lasted just like that for a 1/2 hr! it was fun to see

My neighborhood is a little Beirut, every fourth of July.  Not just the rinky dink sparklers and whiz bangs, the full blown black powder rockets and tremendous explosions, for hours.

This is the first year in many I didn't have fireworks debris all over my roof and yard.

That was a great freelance show, we had rain just after dark so our local boys didn't do their usual stuff which is pure amateur and hodge podge stuff, but some real loud stuff which I do enjoy.

About your drone, which I know nothing about, how did you know what altitude would be right to get your footage?

Also, in the dark how did you know where it was and if it was hovering? And finally, how did you get it to come home, does it have lights so you can see it?

That was some great video, very well done.

Can't speak for the specifics of THIS video, but most of the higher end drones have GPS, obstacle avoidance, ability to hover in a specific spot in space, etc features...

You can fly 'em by using Google Maps, and the drone mostly flies itself. You can even have it return and land right where it took off from.

Here's a video of someone playing with and talking about one of the newer ones, the DJI Phantom 4 (About $1400 including camera and remote)

sorry, I can't help you. it wasn't my drone, but it belongs to the guy who lit the fireworks. it did have lights on it, and it appeared to go to a set location. not like it wondered around until he got the picture he wanted. when the batteries got low, it flew it self to where it took off from. pretty dang cool!
