Wow.  I can't get my deadlift above 750 lbs.  Well, actually, I probably can't get it even close to that.  To be perfectly honest, I went to the gym to lift weights once, but they were so damn heavy!!!  I did five diddlysquats and went home. 

I hate the Gym.  They have like, this wall of mirrors in almost every room.  I know what I look like, that's why I came to the gym in the first place. 

Another thing I don't get is this whole running thing.  What's the deal with that?  I mean- we are at the TOP of the food chain...You do realize we aren't afraid of becoming food any time soon, aren't you?

Holy shiznit.....That had to hurt. I passed out once very briefly after a 650 lb. squat. The scary part was the next morning when I looked at myself in the mirror......There was absolutely no white in my eyes as I had busted the blood vessels in both. Took over a week for them to clear up. In the mean time I looked like some kind of evil demon...  Evil

Lifting the dead is crazy.   Depending on how long they've been dead, just disturbing them can make them stink real bad.   Drag them to the hole and roll them in. 

I found a couple floaters growing up on an island.   I was too young to lift them, the sheriff had to do it.

I remember my dad looking down at one guy floating off our dock, saying:  I bet you didn't listen to the storm warnings, did you?    (Lake Erie)

One or 2 things I know now about reading this is:

1.  Don't mess with Detn8er

2.  If getting into a squabble, have Detn8er on your side..

Squatting much over 400lbs. to me is very impressive for most people in our prime, of course.

I've done that a couple of times. Last time was when I joined the 900 club when I was 35. Crap that's a long time ago. Angry

300 x 10 squat.

It was the squatting that did for me.

Started back to the gym a few months ago somehow it seems your body remembers the fact that at one time you did work out the gains have been good and quick and it feels so much better. If you guys can I urge you to get back into it. Do Cardio then hit the weights and even squats. Never felt comfortable with going real high with squats used to be about 350 for 10 but the leg press was a blast. Used to load that thing up with 9 to 10 plates each side and go at it. Still can easily do 5 plates each side and it feels really good to be back. The only problem is the next couple of days after leg days in the beginning. Shocked Not into that kind of pain when I have to work and be on my feet the all day. Just want to stay healthy and fit.

they call it muscle memory, but it is actually in the brain not the muscles.

the marketing people used that to advertise their great products with Casey Viator, who was the youngest ever AAU Mr. America and was in a serious accident and didn't train for months.
so they used before and after photos and of course his competition body came back within a month in the Colorado Experiment by Arthur Jones but the ads stated it was due to their supplements and training equipment, etc.

Stick with it, Robert.  Multiple doctors have told me that various health scares would have had a worse outcome had I not been working out my entire life. Pushing 70 and still get to the gym 3X a week. It''s also a mental thing, as it is a way for my mind to say F.U. to ongoing, chronic stuff I deal with. I told my wife, when I stop working out, she should increase my life insurance Smiley

I turned 60 this past December.  Had to switch to low weights, many reps.  It will tone you and give cardio at same time, especially if you jump from exercise to exercise with little rest period.  I developed spinal stenosis in 2014 and MRI showed deg. disc disease.  Pretty common for folks my age he said.    Not sure if I pushed the outcome sooner by putting to much pressure on my spine over the years with heavy overhead weights,  but I doubt it helped.  Anyway doc said no heavy impact but bicycle and spinning bike ok and even good to keep blood flowing and pressure off the spine disc.

The human body was not made for the super heavy impact that these behemoths put on their bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and spine and sooner or later they will break down.  Same for American Football and other high impact sports or activities.  I am no trainer, but was a pretty darn good athlete and it paid my college, and still am a fair one, but my suggestion is low impact muscle and cardio for 20 to 30 min. several times a week, especially as one ages.  Do a lot of stretching.

I have worked out most of my 70 years.   Agree about weights.  Word on the streets is the weights do help keep our bone mass.  Cardio helps the heart and wind.   Not sure if it does, but will continue to push iron/walk till I can't any more.   I quit doing some exercises do to strain on back, like squats.  But still do leg presses.   Few years ago started doing 20 reps, staring with one plate and working up to 6 plates then back down.   Now get up to 7 plates (for 30 reps).   (Can do bent over rows with 200 lbs. for 10 reps, did 240 10 years ago)  I figure that Valk is not getting any lighter so want to be able to "man handle" her for another 10 years or so.

One or 2 things I know now about reading this is:

1.  Don't mess with Detn8er

  I was a bodybuilder and power lifter in my youth.  Continued to lift thru out my whole life and even though I am over 60,.. I still do the whole routines.  Benches, squats (full) ,rowing, corner rows a (variant) of rowing, Over head pulley (lat machine)work, floor pulley, Bench curls AKA Scott curls (Larry Scott) first Mr. Olympia 1966 . The usual Bi-Tri work and Delt work too. I believe that you have to put a load on the skeleton as you get older, helps keep the bones strong.  Always took care of my joints with wraps and ice/heat afterwards. Cycled my training so to have 'heavy' months and 'light' months. Not good to stay 'heavy' all the time. Good for the head too.  my favorite movement was squatting still is,  I have done 700 (years ago) don't go that heavy anymore but still use 300 sometimes but mostly 3 sets 10 with 225 full squats ,makes a good workout keeping me strong and flexable enough.  I do walk alot now that I am retired, usually do a mile in the AM and one in the PM along with the gym time.  I LOVE my life .   I ride a GOOD motorcycle too as do all my Valk friends out there.  Take care of yourself and be well.
