I made the move several months ago on a laptop that's approx 4 years old, too. I, too, had Windows 7 previously. I've had no issues with 10 and would do it again.

I upgrades several of my computers with no regrets with Win10. Something I noticed and I don't know exactly what the issue is, I had XP I most of my systems which worked well for me.  Due to the lack of support I slowly switched to Win7 which seem to load and run OK, at a good speed, but I noticed after time the Some of the Win7 machines seemed to slow down a little, slight pauses, as if something was running in the background. The on some of my computer I upgraded to Win10, the ones that were compatible. Right from the get go it seem faster just like they said, you could use the Regular Windows setup or go to the Win8.1 setup. some changes seemed to be helpful and simplify things. Change seem easy to figure out how to use, but like I said it seemed quicker, even on older machines. For the price it is not bad, but if you decide you don't want Win10, you can go back to your Win7, also it doesn't change your configurations or setting, no need to reload anything, worst scenario  is you may have to update some drivers.  Just my observation.

If you have Windows 8 or 8.1 do it but I personally cannot see the advantage of going to 10 when essentially its the same os as 7 with changes that make it a bit more difficult to find things. You have to turn off all the intrusion reporting stuff on top of reconfiguring some settings. Doesn't seem like a bad system but not an advantage either. I also am waiting to see what they do about licensees since now you wont own anything. Most software including operating systems is going to subscription base which means you dont own it and have to pay yearly for it. Dont pay and it gets shut off. I am suspicious of 10 going to this type of setup.

Had 7, went to 10, hate it, going back. I am a simple man, 7 is simple.

I updated as soon as it was offered. One click installed it, no issues. I'm not a big computer user, but I have had not one iota of trouble. I did have to download a couple of new drivers, but, windows 10 told me which ones, and did the download for me. I don't use the cloud, and set my desktop to tablet mode, so it looks like my phone. VERY fast, compared to Win7. YMMV! cooldude

I used to love Win 7 and really did not enjoy the switch to 8 or 8.1 but got used to it. By going to 10 you get back some of the features of 7 such as where to shut down the computer and other features 7 had. Now that I have had 10 for a while I really like it. I too am hesitant about the cloud though and have not used it for anything other than photo storage from my Iphone.

Did it, hate it, would not do it again.  It takes a lot more memory that Win 7, so caused issues with the laptop functioning.

If you do it and hate it, you can change back, but only if you do so within 30 days.

Same experience here.  I had it for a week and had nothing but trouble with a lot of the programs I use.  After a week of trying to get everything back the way it was,  I gave up and went back to Windows 7.

I upgraded to WIn 10. Within days it had to download and install patches and "critical updates" from the internet. One of the "critical updates" froze the computer for two days before I tried to reboot. The machine wouldn't reboot. I had to re-install Win 7 from the original disks. Then NONE of my OFFICE programs would run. So I had to reinstall THEM from scratch.

I will do everything I can to avoid downloading and installing the virus that Microsoft is calling Windows 10.

Win 10 just gave me another reason to hate it. Seems as I am trying to go back to 7, the Update and Security function does not respond. It opens the page but none of the tabs including the Recovery tab will highlight or function in any way. This windows 10 has only been installed for two weeks.
