Version 2 of the Shiny Kit has much better brackets for the top plugs then the original kit. I actually used two of the OEM brackets when I desmogged years ago.

Very nice video for those that may never attempt such a project. I just wish my hands could move that fast...

Great video but if I may, a couple of hints.

1) NEVER remove gasket material from aluminium with steel. You can score the aluminium and steel and aluminium don't mix well. Always use a plastic scraper.

2) Clean the parts and the area before reassembly. You dont get under there much so best to clean it. Dirt holds moisture and promotes corrosion.

A desmog is done as a precursor to the installation of many cruise controls. Don't know much about the MCcruise in particular, but I would think you may have a little extra hardware attached to the carburetor frame above the engine. Stuff to work around and probably nothing to be concerned about...

One other small thing I noticed. The clips on the tubes weather it be vacuum lines or fuel lines or coolant lines, should be placed just behind the "Bulge" when installed not at the end of the tube. there should always be some tube after the clip.

The fact that you have to remove the exhaust makes me less inclined to do this unless absolutely necessary. Otherwise I would've done it by now. What exactly are the benefits, other than removing parts/lines that could fail later on?

RGM, all Valkyries have the equipment shown in the video. California models also had an additional canister on the left side near the petcock.

Wayn-O, actually you do not need to remove the exhaust. I know that I did not remove them. But one may need a flexible set of tools to access the lower center ports and you may have to also destroy the pipe to #4 on the left side...

Great job on your videos. I've completed three shiny desmogs essentially like you did in your video. I would encourage those folks who desmog their bike's to also install an electronic fuel shut off valve, a Dan Marc.

Good work on the videos. Just want to suggest, as I did before, and this is not a criticism but a suggested shortcut cost and time saver - you can do an express desmog by cutting off, flattening and folding over most of the pair tubes with vise grips. One that's harder to get to, #1, you can cut off the tube and plug it with a bolt slathered with JB-weld - which is good to 400°.
This makes it so there's no need to even go near the headers, or pull the exhaust.

eg, like these shots. Done this several times on different Valkyries.

Say Sam now that ya got your pipes, wonder if you'll make one of these videos on installing them...
