The cat loves it.  Says Max Output <5mW.

EDIT: Had to Google that, don't think my cat would care for those at all.

sawmillcreek.org has a section on CNC machines.  It's a great woodworking forum but is heavily moderated.  You don't have to worry about anyone talking religion or politics.  Wink. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/forumdisplay.php?38-CNC-Machines

A laser pointer is about 5 milliwatts, these are 1 watt to about 6 watts. they are used to engrave and for cutting. (There is 1000 milliwatts in 1 watt) Co2 lasers are generally around 40 watts, and industrial lasers are 100 watts and up. You don't entertain you cat with these, you can fry the cat with them.

How many watts is it, and what is the max. thickness will it cut. I am trying to get an better understanding and range. I just got done building two CNC Lasers for home use, one 2 watt and the other 5.5 watt. Still tweaking it, these come with NO instructions, drivers and software, but I got that covered now.  Talk about a puzzle and Gcode!

Wow, wish I had one of those that would cut through 3/32" SS,  I would make up a bunch of choke lever conversion kits.

Shaping that 6" piece is the major drawback. The other two pieces are simple cut, bend & drill.

They are pretty cool!! The one we had at work was about the size of a SUV and did some serious metal cutting in one single pass. The one your showing is also single pass, but lighter material maybe. Other that that you can still have fun, but remember, they are not toys and can do damage if not used properly, with precautions. Especially your eye sight!

I have been playing with the lasers a little, and I used laserable aluminum and did some testing on engraving on it. I scanned these plates but the scanner does no justice to them. These are shiny black with bright gold etching. I still like to find a good graphic of the maiden flying head, would like to try that.
