For some period of time I have been noticing the lack of creativity in the media, movies and music. Is it like people have totally lost the ability to be creative and create things? I was just watching the news and they now have I guess, a remake of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Correct me if I am wrong! But originally that movie was a flop and with a little creativity from maybe the director or producer (Not sure Who) came up with taking part in the movie, that made it a sensation. Just one example!! OK!! I hear in commercials, sort of licks of successful songs, not quit exact!! Remakes of passed, very successful TV shows, Movies or just the concepts, I kind of see it as, stealing other peoples thunder, or exploiting others successes. For example: Wynonna Earp, Super Girl, Ghost Busters, Lethal Weapon, and Hawaii Five O, and I can go on. I guess if it makes people happy I guess it’s OK! But what has happened to the new generation in the entertainment business. But! If I don’t like it, I can turn off the TV, or not go to the Movies. BUT!! If that is happening on entertainment industry, is it happening in closer to home areas, what about our manufacturing of products, homes, cars, electronics and so on. May be in the food industry they are being too creative. Are people’s creative abilities depleting slowly! I have no answer, but I see it happening in front of our eyes. I see being creativity, a close cousin to problem solving, does that concept extend in to our government and our daily lives. Why is there so many recalls, failures and neglect! Just an observation!!!!! I see things in my daily life like a checkers game, patterns, trends and possibilities!!! What do you see, of course I could be wrong!!!

Well crap. As if I didn't have enough things to worry about already, some creative person just creates something else. Very thoughtful post. The only worry I have about entertainment is how debased and violent it has become. I don't think it's healthy for a society much less children specifically. Lots of creativity I think in the science, physics and technology areas. More important long term than intertainment. I agree creativity is akin to problem solving. If there is an general reduction in creativity I would have no idea where to begin to pinpoint its cause. Just too many variables although it would be easy to to speculate. How are your CNC machines coming? I've kind of wanted to build a router CNC for a while but just can't conger the desire to actually do it even with a background in automation and micro controllers. Old age I guess. Wonder if a lack of creativity could be caused by a general aging of a society? Interesting.

The creative people are the authors... not anything Hollywood.
Hollywood takes an awesome book and takes "artistic liberties" with it... They take a good story and change it, thusly destroying the original story line and moral of the book (or series of books).
A pretty good book, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, originally had a good ending. The Hollywood movie (at least the American version) changed the ending, putting in something completely stupid, and made the whole story line lose its "flow".
So, to answer your question... I think the creative people are still out there. Hollywood, however, has lost touch and largely ignores the creative people. Instead they just keeps spewing out crap.
And then there's the whole idea of "Hey, Ghostbusters was a big money maker in the past. Let's remake that so we already have a fan base and are guaranteed a good return on the money." aspect. In other words... greed and laziness.

I can't say it about many people on this forum, I do have to say, we have some creative and clever people on this board. When I say it, I am talking about the outsiders. Speaking about violence, you got crap like the Simpsons, just one of them. And parent just can't understand why children are so disrespectful and obnoxious, "Where the heck they getting all of this, it must be the people they hang out with, it is their fault". RIGHT!!! When a movie is made from a book or an author, that is where it starts from. The thing that gets me is when they remake something that has been already done, because they don't have the ability to be original. And don't get me wrong, even though something is original or creative, can still be crap. I rarely ever read Fiction, because it is a collection of another persons thoughts, and you are escaping into someone's else's thoughts. Occasional book OK! But when people run away into other peoples personal world, they are strip themselves of their own ability to be creative. Your dreams should be your own, your thoughts should be your own, and your decisions should always be your own.

Well don't hang up your spurs yet, you still have a long way to go, My brains hasn't figured out that I am 69yrs old yet. Any way here is a pic of the second one I built, it comes with no instructions, drivers or software. I just orders some extrusions to make the frame larger 300X400mm work space. When you talk router are you speaking X and Y or X, Y and Z?

XYZ but I'm just not going to ever do it Too many other things I've devoted lots of time, money and energy to and then just lost interest once I developed a modicum of skill and mostly understood the process. Went so far as to buy some stepper motors, three driver controller and an Arduino but they only got brief playtime a few months back. Maybe someday. Your build looks real good. Bigger is always better. Don't know much about laser CNC's, how if the depth of the engraving controlled?

Yes you can control the depth. Keep something in mind, whether you are using a router or a laser or a 3d heat element, basically they are all the same principle and work the same way. Forward, back, side to side and up and down. The part are pretty universal, and sounds like you are well on your way.

Thanks, I was just curious if lasers used the Z axis or somehow modulated power or speed to get depth
