Getting caught cheating has consequences.   They got caught.   No tears for them.    No problem.   Wouldn't matter if it was the US IMHO.   The folks I feel bad for are ones who didn't cheat but, I'm not qualified to say who did or who didn't.   The fact that the cheating was state sponsored speaks volumes about Putin's desire to dominate the world.   Maybe if the Russians are staying home, they and other nations/athletes will learn a lesson.

Have to give the IOC credit for standing up and taking action when others would be intimidated.

Official word just came down, looks like the I.O.C. is waffling and trying to find a middle ground between banning the whole Russian delegation and letting them off the hook...

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/25/sports/olympics/rio-russia-ban-doping.html

"Olympics officials said on Sunday that all Russian athletes are considered tainted by the country’s state-run doping scheme and that they are not allowed to compete in the coming Rio Games unless they are able to convince individual sports federations that they are innocent."

Odd tactic for them to take...

Unless it's a foregone conclusion that there is no way for them to convince their innocence and they are being set up to fail a second time.   Wink

Looks to me like the I.O.C. didn't like the heat and decided to pass the buck to those in charge of the individual sports instead...

Since you brought that up, I'm convinced that Comey only did what he had to do to save his career.   He gave us many hints but, couldn't pull the trigger. (Which also says something about him.)

I'm also convinced that the meeting between Slick Willy and the DOJs director was no accident.  The leaked information that allowed us to find out about that secret runway meeting was just an excuse so that the DOJ Director could claim innocence and recluse herself from the decision.

I really think this was all set up by the DNC and the Obama Administration.   Too many that leaked lessor secrets have had their careers ruined, paid fines and went to jail for this to not have been a case of "who" was being investigated.   I don't have a lot of respect for politicians but, have absolutely no respect for the DNC and Obama.

Back on topic:  Cheaters cheat, they got caught.   Wait, that brings us back to the Clintons.   Dang it!!

I think they should let them do all the drugs they want and report on what drugs each sport or individual athlete is actually taking. Many cheat already so why not just open it up and let these "athletes" show what drug enhancement can do for the body and allow pharmacy companies to use them as lab rats. We the public would get to see some real feats of strength, stamina and endurance. Roll Eyes Cheesy

Well, I guess that is an idea worthy of consideration but, I would suggest that it would have to be in separate competitions.   We could call that the Very Special Olympics.  Cheesy

I don't think he did it to save his career, I'll bet in the very near future, once the hype dies down, he will retire with a nice "Golden Parachute" type of retirement plan and a seat on the board of the Clinton Foundation.
AS far as the Russians and the Olympics??? I stopped caring about the Olympics when they started letting paid pro athletes in the Olympics.

The teams from the Communist Bloc were always professional and paid athletes.
The 1972 Gold Medal Game in Men's Basketball was a breaking point, but the 1980 Miracle on Ice was the greatest affirmation for why they need to go on.
The 1972 team has yet to accept the silver medals and I'm sure never will.
Rio is a failure already and none of the athletes have competed yet!   I do feel badly for those who compete honorably for their countries and themselves.  The spirit of the games' competition is noble, but the accompanying politics, economics, bias judging of events, and drug/genetic scandals surrounding them is just a standing joke every four years.

well too bad for Russia, apparently they're going to miss out on some real fun. At least the IOC is looking out for the athletes is some fashion, trying to prevent shots of penicillin.
