for longer than 24 hours straight without moving it.  NEW rule been on the books a few years now.  How stupid is that?    Anyone else have that in their hometown, like mine being a small rural town of 1100 people still having a few yield signs still,  about a 1 miles radius of the entire town.

I know several flat bed trailers and a guy having an old fishing boat sitting outside their homes not moved for months and no tickets.  I set my enclosed trailer for about 1 month now in front of my house which is on a dead end street only about 7 neighbors above me on the street is all.  Came home last Thursday from work with a red warning from police chief to move trailer within 24 hours or be towed or ticketed by noon the next day.  I know who complained am sure my fancy home builder up the street, the one who thinks they OWN the town, no one else on my street would care.

My feelings are if not hurting anyone and is on a WIDE street NO sidewalks still able to get 2 cars to easily go thru plus my trailer, what is the big deal parking 1 object in front of my own house not causing any harm and not an eyesore.  Now, if I let it sit there for 6 months or longer and had a few other vehicles parked for a long time,  then yes,  MOVE them off the street.

I talked to one of the village crew members and he said my last name is not important enough in this town unlike so and so he mentioned who thinks they own the town and can do what they want.   Tempted to go to a village board meeting and ask who implemented such a stupid rule not allowing any vehicle or trailer, etc. to be parked for more than 24 hours before having to move it.  They don't really enforce it I don't think until someone complains about it though I don't think or is aa definite safety or eyesore.  Winter parking though is restricted when snow is on the ground as expected for snowplows to do their jobs.

Or,  you can move the trailer say 10 feet or on other side of my street daily with NO harm vs. parking it alongside my garage 1/2 way into the grass.  It is a public street so why can't the public use it, especially since NEVER ANYONE else parks anything in front of my own house.

I don't think those type of bylaws are unusual or unreasonable. Here it's 72 hours for a vehicle in one spot, 24 hours for a trailer or RV, and the trailer must always be attached to a tow vehicle.  All enforced when a citizen complains.

Who wants to look out their living room window and have it look like they live in an RV park, and who wants to have to park a block away from the place they live or are visiting because the on-street parking is taken by RVs and non-running vehicles? That's what back yards and RV storage lots are for.

It's not that people think their crap doesn't stink, it's that they think crap should be in an outhouse, not on the street where everyone else has to hold their nose and step over it.

If you think it's just Rich Dude who wants the bylaw, start a petition to have it rescinded. Should be easy in  town of 1100.

How about showing us a picture.  I don't have a big problem with such regs either, within reason.

If a complaint is made, something usually has to be done.

Why not just move the trailer to the front of your buddies house, I think I'd have it there every other day.

Ain't small town politics a wonderful thing.

Have another one for you, it seems you cannot go downtown now without paying for parking at 10.00 even for a  few minutes after 5pm. I went to get my hair cut and started to park in a spot on private property that was owned by the same people as the hair cutter that I use. It was not the property owners idea to do this it was the city's. Was told would have to pay 10.00. It seems the city has made all the parking in downtown valet so anywhere you go you have to pay. Pissed me off.

we cant park in front of our house cookie
We are near the bottom of a Big ass hill at end of a left turn in the road and in winter people have not only run onto our lawn but have had 2 cars hit in driveway

There is also no parking across the street.

It is a safety thing and I am ok with it. Plenty of room just down past our property for visitors and about 100' away on Leawood Drive

BigBF had no issues parking his pickup truck and his trailer filled only about half of my driveway  Town also does not allow you to park a dump truck or boat in front of your house

Same rule in Manitowoc I also had a neighbor who would called the police every time I left my truck in front of my house for more than a day. Also trailers must be hitch to vehicles if left on the street.
So I moved out to the country no neighbors no problems

I live in a city of 17,000. We have a similar ordinance.  It's not normally enforced.  It's there for problems like taking advantage of on street parking by parking junk cars, etc, which don't run.  It also could be there for street sweeping.  If. someone complains then it's enforced. Otherwise, no.

If it's a public street, anyone can park there, even someone from out of town (unless they block your driveway.)

As a councilman, I wrote a number of ordinances and most are written because of previous problems or possible foreseen problems.  Just tools if needed.

Interesting reads.

I say if have to pay 10 bucks to get your haircut,  time to find another barber...

good read on hanging trailer from tree, but my 7x23 trailer won't work hanging from a tree.

good idea on parking in front of that neighbor's house, but is on a somewhat steep hill/road so won't work.  The road levels off down where I live being much safer.  I could move it 10 feet either way and then qualified for MOVING it daily, but my theory is NO harm, NO foul.  NOw, if I left it there for 6 months or more especially during winter which I will not do vs. 1-2 months,  then I can see complaints and hazards (especially during winter).

Still tempted to go to village board and raise a stink since some idiot thought this one up.  If a hazard or eyesore,  no problems enforcing the ordinance, by all means.  But,  this one is B.S. probably because that rich home builder up our street barrels down our road doing 35 mph (vs. 25 mph) daily and doesn't want to move over some 3-5 feet to avoid a high speed collision.  I have driven 20 mph in our town before him following me on my back bumper almost since he cannot drive the speed limit.  I even yelled at him years ago when he was flying down our street when my kids were little yelling SLOW DOWN when my kids were playing outside.  Some people think they OWN these small towns.  Did I report him to the police on speeding 10 mph over 100's of times?? NO!

You could go to the village meeting but don't raise hell, it'll get you nowhere. When complaining, give them a solution.

Maybe suggest that the ordinance be changed to a junk car ordinance like unlicensed vehicles, or up on blocks, missing parts, etc.  That's probably why the ordinance is in place. It will also give the cops a visual and make it easier to enforce instead of a complaining neighbor.
