Trump's talk about the guys Purple Heart was a joke ? Didn't seem like a joke to me, he seemed pretty serious. And if it was, I would say a medal for someone's serious injury or death is not really something to joke about.

I agree with CI-borg (I wonder what that means).  What Mr. Trump said was exactly correct.  I also noted he said it with respect and the comment about receiving it as a gift being easier was meant to express his appreciation for those who had been awarded the heart.

The truth is that at this time no matter what the man says someone and the mainstream media will jump on it and call it stupid.  It was a special moment for Donald Trump as it would have been for me.  I don't know exactly what any one of the critics would have said when Lt. Col. Dorfman gifted them with one of hos most treasured possessions.

I don't get the significance of gifting a purple heart to anyone much less a Presidential Candidate.  Why would anyone want someone else's medal, its just a piece of metal at that point.  I agree with Carl that the "this is much easier" comment was in respect to those that actually earned the medal.

One cannot complain that current politicians are too PC and maintain that political correctness has been a huge negative in our government and then complain that Trump is the opposite of political correctness.  Ok, sure he may blab things that are not very helpful to his champagne, but at the end of the day they just show that he thinks the way many of us do and he is not afraid to say what he thinks

I don't believe the point here is Trump wanting a medal. He didn't. The point is the gentleman that gifted it did so as a token of friendship and support for Mr. Trump. Being a Purple Heart, it symbolizes the depth of that man's friendship and support.

I don't see Mr. Trump's comments to be odd, but a light hearted friendly response of acceptance of the man's offer.
