I had about decided that I liked the Pirelli Angle GT (spec-A) tire
on Chewie better than the Michelin PR4 I had on there previously.

Last Friday I rode a little way up into the mountains figuring it would
be the last ride on the Pirelli, and man was I right:

This tire has been all over North Georgia, into the North Carolina mountains,
the Tennessee mountains, and back and forth to InZane in West Virginia on
mountain backroads. 4200 miles is all I got. I check the pressure on every ride,
unless I checked it yesterday and all I did was ride 30 miles to work. If the rear
isn't 40 or over, I run it up to 42 or so. My chickenstrips aren't the skinniest,
but they are to the edge of the tread. Nevertheless, the center is toast.
Perhaps rolling back and forth to work on my chip-seal farm route is an
expensive pleasure?

Oh well... this weekend I'll get started mounting the $75 Avon AV80
on the rear and the Avon AV71 I have... I bet the AV80 only goes
about 2K, like the first tire that was on Chewie (living up to her nickname).

I'm off to work on the Log Truck this morning. What a great bike. I had
to rinse off the pollen and stuff, not a real wash job:

Thanks Mike for being the VRCC's unofficial tire reviewer but I think this post would be better on the 1800 board.  coolsmiley

Yep, I loved the handling and everything about the Pirelli Angel GT4s I ran on my ST1300, EXCEPT the center gives absolutely NO warning the cords are about to show. I thought I had enough tread for 1500 miles according to the tread depth, but after 500 miles, the center cords were exposed. According to the tread depth that could be measured, there was over 2/32" left..... Never again. I went back to Michelin Pilot Road 4s. I'm currently back on Avons for the Valk.

I looked at the tire every day during InZane. I'm just lucky I made it back from there
I guess...

Chip-n-seal is like sandpaper to ride on.  How they apply the chip-n-seal determines whether it is like fine or coarse sandpaper.   ???

Kittie #3 (named "toomany") can do that  Wink

The white cat is kittie #4... I found her scared and hungry down in
the woods during the winter, it was going to be 12 degrees that night.

The dang Pirelli hasn't got any tread right in the center. Those tread lines
that go closest to the center still have a little depth to them... they're what
I've been looking at to gauge the tire...

I call it pea gravel where I live but is sharp pea gravel.  I had it stuck all over in my former Avon cobra rear tire until spring when I rolled it out of storage only to find either I was weak or the rear tire was near flat which it was.  I aired it up, soaped it all over, and found about 20 pinholes in the rear tire due to the sharp pea gravel on roads around here.  Not impressed since still had another 2000 miles or so to go on tread of rear avon tire.   Came home last 2 nights on it on a rural road just done that day.  I hate people doing 65 mph coming at me blowing up dust storms and flinging pea gravel to my side of the road while I barely putz doing 45 mph to keep in the groove where tires have been since otherwise is so much on the road makes it very squirrely.

Yep-that's what I found also. I will never run another one (I buy a LOT of tires) simply because of that. I will NOT be blindsided by a tire!

Those roads must be 80grit!  The Avons were delivered last week for my 1800 and the original dunlops got 6500 and something let loose inside the front tire and caused a shimmie. I just had found the wear bars on the front. Back has a tad more but it is time to change.  We will see what Florida roads do to it.

Just put another Avon on the front of my 1500, very happy with the Avon on the 1500 front but I do CT on the back.  Will be interesting to see how they do on the 1800c.

I don't have names for my bikes so numbers will have to do.  Iffin I did it might be beauty and the beast.

No names for me either. Just "green bike" and "blue bike". But "Chewie" does seem pretty appropriate for hubcaps bike.  cooldude

Joe named Chewie when about ten of us had to wait
for me to get the original tire changed out at 2000 miles
on a rainy Friday afternoon in Murfreesboro.

Someone on the 1800 board got me to start calling the Red&White
The Log Truck, when they said their old Valkyrie rode like
a log truck compared to their 1800.
