Just ordered one of these today from Buds Guns. "Commander" size Smith & Wesson SW1911 Round Butt with the Scandium alloy frame (29.6 oz). I've handled one but not shot it.... it feels and looks amazing.

Does anyone here have one? If so, comments?

Nice looking 1911. I prefer the CZ75 and it's clones shorter action even though I have several 1911's (or 2011 if a double stack) in .45ACP and 10mm. I am curious to know how much jump the lighter weight will add to the recoil.

Nice. Thats a great looking gun and should last a lifetime.  Good luck with it.

I'm a big fan of the Commander series as well the Gold Cups. All mine are Colts [ older Colts] and have been great guns.

a little more muzzle rise than a Govt model but will easily keep all shots in a paper plate at 25 feet.

had an issue with the detent in the safety wasn't deep enough and was too easy to move off safe. small drill bit fixed that.

Till it got "broke in" if you fully loaded the mag and put one in the chamber then topped off the mag it would sometimes fail to feed the first round out of the mag. S&W, Colt, Mcormick or Wilson it didn't matter what mag or  spring or follower  in the mag. I think the tolerance of parts is tight enough to slow the slide down until they get mated together.

Perhaps this video might answer your question. This is the same gun that I purchased. The SW1911Sc

Nice pistol.  cooldude

I wish the rear corner had been knocked off all of them (1911s); with small hands, that has been the spot that caused me some pain and grief over the years.  I've taken off the sharp corners with files.

I have a Series 70 Ltwt Commander (built for me by Armand Swenson) (4.25"), and a Kimber Compact Aluminum (4").  Lightweight frames take a bit more beating than steel, but are easier to carry, which is the whole point.

If you want some upgrade grips, try VZ GRIPS.  A pair in silver-grey and black would be a nice match for a 2-tone pistol (and would match up well with the fish scale slide serrations).   https://vzgrips.com/pistol-grips/1911

I like grippy grips, over smooth, for shooting.  But one must keep in mind that the grippiest of grips can can tend to hang up on clothing (and perhaps print a bit more, and even grab skin) if added to pistols intended for an IWB holster and concealment.

BTW, the pictures on VZ's website are not the greatest, so googling VZ grips on 1911s and going to images will give you a far better selection of photos to look at when choosing.

The feel of it in your hand is all important when it comes to accuracy. Way to go on this purchase!

That S&W 1911 looks sweet!   Nice piece!  I currently carry a Sig "Scorpian Carry" with a couple of custom features as my duty weapon.  Shoots awesome.  Even though it's a "Commander" size 1911, it's a bit heavy for off duty concealed carry.  Though I do that often anyway.
