Am in need of one either this fall or for sure this spring hoping to buy it in next few months 'just in case' I need it for my front tire.
Anyone ever use the Shinko SE890 Journey front tire since that is my back tire now? Comments? Suggestions??

not much on tire choices on that website but besides the avon cobra front being higher in price, the dunlop d404 is under 100 bucks being bias ply some swear by bias ply and those d404 tires and even the shinko se890 journey is all a few bucks cheaper as well on that website.
thanks!!
Yah, I know, discussing tires is like oil, everyone has an opinion, but after my avon cobra rear and now my front going, time to try something else can't be much worse. Avon cobra front lasted but my avon rear was not impressed with.
Any issues with going dunlop d404 BIAS ply on front with say a radial shinko SE890 journey rear like I have now mixing bias/radial?? I don't think so, but just asking once again. if bias ply vs. radial is softer tread compound in front I am all for that since my avon cobra radial since day one in front seemed HARSH/too firm even with 38-39 psi for front tire. Am sure some of that is due to OEM fork oil and OEM springs on I/S version which I want to get done as well same time with progressive front shocks/new fork oil, which should last me another 15 years or so being the one and only last time for sure.

Harleys run bias on the front of the Vrod. It has the same funny size as the 1800 Valkyrie, so I've been running the Harley bias on the front of it. I like it fine, wear wise and handling wise, but mine is out-of-round or something, there's a tiny "unsmoothness" - I'm about to change it out...

I'm using a Journey front and back. I think the rear may last about 7,500 miles which is pretty good for me.
I used Shinkos on my ST for about 100,000 miles with no problems.

If interested, J&P Cycles have a $50 rebate on a set of Metzler tires, good until the end of August. I've been using a Metz bias ply in front for the last few years, finally changed out the front last January with 17k and still lots of rubber left. Was getting old but still ran smooth, kudos to balance beads. To get longer life out of the rear, before I went with a c/t I ran Metz 200/60-16. The extra size and balance beads gave me close to 12k before picking up something in the road that ruined it. Always ran 40/42, front/rear.

I installed a Shinko on front wheel. Only have put a few thousand miles on it. Am real satisfied with it. It rides smoother, handles better and a lot cheaper than the E3 that it replaced. If it holds up I will use Shinko again.

So far the rear with over 2K miles is like new still as it should be I would imagine? If I get 10K our of rear and 15K out of front is just as good as the Avon Cobra I had previously which were great at first but iffy at best 1/2 way thru.

I'm currently running a Shinko 230 Tourmaster on the front and a SE 890 Journey on the rear. http://www.shinkotireusa.com/tire/230-tour-masterNot only do I like this combo better than Journeys front and rear but the front Tourmaster was only $80. I really like the Tourmaster on set roads. You probably couldn't ride as hard as Smokin Joe without losing some grip. But the average rider will be OK.

I read reviews on both and seems like both are just as good as dunlop/metzler and last just as long at 1/2 the price. One commented though on his goldwing the se890 journey front lasted LESS than his SE890 journey rear which seems very odd never had a front tire wear down before a rear tire, seems odd? I have been doing some investigating and more and more people prefer bias ply (ex. like the dunlop D404) especially on front tire due to better grip and more so no flat spots/cupping and wears more evenly and possibly more longevity than a radial tire. I see the 230 tourmaster is 4 ply nylon belted vs. the se890 journey radial is 5 ply middle and 3 ply sides aramid construction whatever that means? I'll think I'll go that $90 SE230 tourmaster front with my SE890 journey rear put on last summer and use that extra 30 bucks towards new front fork oil and new progressive springs in front since OEM since 2001 not liking the ride/non firmness of the too soft front suspension after 15 years.

Had two Shinko S E 890s and currently on a Shinko 777 white wall. Been lookin at that 230 Tourmaster BUT I REALLY like the looks of the white wall on the front! Old School doncha know! The Shinko's have NEVER let me down or given me cause for concern-unlike the dunflops. From the Dragon to a bull floater In Iowa and Illinois to the scorching summer heat. Are there better tires out there?-sure-are there worse tires out there?-again sure. And B T W-got right at 14000 out of each of the S E 890s. RIDE SAFE.
