New to forum but been following  for a while.  Been riding 30 years, picked up a valkyrie this winter.  Long story short went on a 200 mile ride with a club i ride with occasionally.  On the way back there were four of us left, group leader had commented on my bike at red lights "lots of power in heard but I don't think it could keep up with my new road glide or thar street glide behind us"....when the opportunity safely presented itself I moved over a lane and gave him some room....he looked, revved and dowshifted....he got a jump on me but it only took a few seconds and passed him, he couldn't come close to me.  I wasn't even full throttle.  Context, 30mph rolling start, I hit ,you brakes at 75ish and had at least three bike lengths on him.

No valkyries were harmed :)

I can only imagine there were excuses involved......
That can only mean one thing. You have to do a follow-up spanking on the V-Twinkies!

BTW - That was a PERFECT first post!  ;D

not much to brag about really...   :2funny:

I'm no racer but off the line the vtwins were quicker in first gear but when I hit 2nd gear I have caught up and that 2nd and 3rd gear of our valks are awesome.  I find 1st gear is not as long a hold as the vtwinkies able to go into first gear longer so I go into 2nd gear sooner and off I go.   :D

Welcome to the world of Valks, one of the top 10 ever bikes made I believe.  Not the greatest in any one category but very good at all categories, except gas mileage...   :2funny:

Good stuff guys, thanks for the replies.

Yes, I am aware it wasn't much of a race.....not bragging just trying to share a funny story.

They won't be your buddies long if you keep whoopin them. HD riders take it personally.

oh well right?  just let them win once in awhile to make them feel happy..   ;)

Am sure there are 1000's of HD riders who are much better than me that could spank our Valks with no problem whatsoever since not that much of a speed demon much anymore.    I'm beginning to like smelling the roses and taking it easier.  :police:

My one drag race was with my neighbor on his HD Road Glide. He is a MUCH more experienced and better rider than I am. Yet I launched out in front of him by a big margin. I watched my mirror to see if I was still pulling away, and I was. Very satisfying.

Would say that with the difference in what my Valk cost compared to yours I can afford to use a bit more fuel!  :cooldude:

This is a big deal because your new.
After a while, you'll become jaded and bitter and just come here to talk politics and oil and tires.
Still, I think a Davidson in the rearview is a happy Davidson.
That's where they're mostly found anyway.
Aot of guys with burn marks, gnarly scars and funny twitches ask why I spend so much on safety gear

I was rolling thru a shopping area on my Valk and a few H D's came up alongside. We caught the next few lights as they changed to green . We stopped at the fourth light and the H D rider asked, "does that thing have an automatic trans , I never saw you shift."  I did a slow roll on at about 25. No , its a 5 speed.  He said he shifted three times. How fast is top end ? I said somewhere north of 135. He did not think a bike could go from a 5th gear roll out to top speed. Its O K out of the hole also. He said he had a 103 and it couldn't be beat. At the next light , it was.

There is another way to win a bet with HD riders and doesn't require balls to the wall.

Tell them to shift into their highest gear and let the throttle alone, Let the bike slow down,  then accelerate from that idle.  The Valk will run at its normal idle in 5th and take off smoothly in 5th if you don't whack the throttle at first.  I have never seen any other bike that can do that.  Of course, don't make a practice of it as you will have the lowest oil pressure at the highest load on the bearings ( I think). Correct me if I'm wrong.

I tried it once, after reading about it and mine did it with a passenger.

I have yet to spank any blowhard rider with George.  But then I've only had him out a couple times since I acquired him in late winter. George does not ride in the dirt so he has to be hauled to pavement. And I can't imagine any harley rider thinking taking on a blown Valkyrie will be anything but humiliating.  Pretty sure George is in the 10-sec league - but haven't taken him to the track.  Don't think I will - just will savor my fantasy instead of proving it right or wrong.  I just know he runs like stink.

Many years ago my lovely spousal unit had a Honda Silverwing, a 600cc scooter.

It would spank every Harley she could find from a red light.

She'd go out "Harley Hunting" looking for a pack of 'em, challenge the one in the lead, and embarass him thourghouly. They HATED it when (Her words!) the fat chick with the fluffy cat ears riding a SCOOTER beat 'em...

...and she'd always look for groups so there would be witnesses...

Yeah, she can be kinda evil like that.

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

your idea is flawed 5th gear to 5th gear i can do that no problem thats down to about 25 mph and roll on up to speed then when i hit about 95 or so i go into 6th gear..

bring it on!!! this is 2010 and there are a lot of 6 second Harleys', Suzukis'  and Kawasakis',, but no Hondas',, wonder why that is? any way crank up the speakers i think you like the music, and the harleys that blow up too..but not one honda blew up..

o yea mine is basically stock (stage one air filter and mufflers and head pipe) and will do 0-60 in 4.6 and the full quarter mile 13.6 .
so yea its plenty fast but only takes me 3 and 1/2 seconds longer to get to the end and meet you for coffee...

George - 2.8sec 0-60.  Don't think you'll ever catch me with my 'nads that close to the top end of any motor, much less a blown Harley. There are no stock Harleys that can touch him including V-Rods.  No Screaming Eagles either.  Now if you have a full blown drag bike that's another story but those aren't on the street. At least I've never seen or heard of a HD drag bike licensed for the street.  George isn't a crotch rocket, so comparisons to Hyabusa's or ZX-14's or any of the liter bike racers is apples to oranges.  He's a cruiser, and as fast in a drag race as any new V-Max or Rocket III. And faster than any cruisers I know of.  If any cruisers have the balls to challenge - well I might have to look around for the law and get out the clock cleaner...

Uhhh...as a longtime Vmax guy, I might have to defend the tuning forks and disagree here.  Decent 2nd Gen Max's are routinely running into the 9's at over 140.   Stock.   You might have your hands full there.
