I had a nice conversation with an Army veteran today. He came up to the counter wearing an Army hat. I asked if he was in Korea , he appeared to be mid to late 70's. He said no he had been in WWII. I was very surprised, he said he was 93. We talked for a while about where he served. Mostly Okinawa. He was eager to talk about it and said he was very grateful for the Atom bombs being dropped on Japan. As it was known to them that they would be heading to Japan otherwise to invade. It was nice talking to him, you don't see many anymore.

My next door neighbor who I've known for years was a paratrooper in WWII.  He told me the same.  He was thankful that Truman dropped the Bomb.  Bill was stationed on Okinawa ready to be part of the invasion of Japan. They were told that they would have tremendous casualties.  Truman saved his life.

Here is a photo of Bill going on the Honor Flight. He humbled me when he said that he wished that I could've gone with him.  He saw combat in WWII. I did not see combat in Korea.

Yes, it's amazing.

On my Honor Flight. a 95 year old WWII vet played his harmonica for us during the flight.  However, most of the WWII and some of the Korean War vets were in wheelchairs.

Bill, my friend, is doing poorly physically but ok mentally.

Just talked to my dad on Friday.  It was his 92nd birthday.  He was in the Philippines and on Tinian during the war.  Still won't talk much about it but every now and then he lets a little slip.  I was very privileged to fly him out to the WWII memorial in DC when it first opened.  While there, he ran into some of his old shipmates.
