I could not help but think of this after a support call this AM


Mujibar was trying to get a job in India .

The Personnel Manager said , 'Mujibar,

you have passed all the tests , except one.
Unless you pass it , you cannot qualify for this job.'

Mujibar said , 'I am ready.'

The manager said,
'Make a sentence using the words
Yellow, Pink, and Green .'

Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said,
'Mister manager , I am ready'

The manager said , 'Go ahead.'

Mujibar said,
'The telephone goes green , green ,
and I pink it up , and say,
Yellow, this is Mujibar.'

Mujibar now works at a call center.

No doubt you have spoken to him.
I know I have.

Do companies really think the cost savings of foreign call centers is helping the business. I guess that's a rhetorical question. If they didn't they would quit. I have a different opinion though. I personally will never buy another HP computer because of dealing with that.

I work for HP (HP Enterprise Service), and I won't buy an HP, even with employee discounts.

(My team of ~20 people is 3 Americans and the rest are a rotating cast of Indians. The turnover rate is so high over there we don't even know how many people are on my team at any given time.)

But then again, Dell, Lenovo or just about any other big brand is no better these days.

I am sure you are right. My dealings with HP left a lasting impression though.

I can't speak for others, but, I've had an Apple for quite a while now. 6 years with no issues. I've never had a computer last this long without problems.

For desktop I build my own.

For a laptop I go mostly on price/performance and then upgrade a few things myself (RAM and SSD are cheap, easy upgrades that can make a world of different to a low end to mid range laptop.)

I've never had a desktop at home.

I like Thinkpad laptops, but not low-end ones. I particularly
like the pointing device. I have an X1 Carbon. It is one of those
super-thin super-lightweight laptops, I guess a competitor to
those Macbook Airs (those are good if you can stand MacOS   ).

I have Fedora on my X1 Carbon.

I was one of the 3 folks who started up CompUSA PC, the home brand, back in the 90s.  The rules were we had to build it (more like assemble it) in the USA and that the call center was in the USA.  Took 3 years and it was killed by the brands without those rules.  Just could not compete on price.

I buy primarily Dell desktops today.  Dell is not the best but it's pretty reliable, easy to upgrade and if you buy 3 year old ones, they are cheap.  For laptops,  either Lenevo Thinkpad or Dell Precision notebooks.  Everything I have is with an Intel I7 processor - next upgrade will be to a later generation of that chip.

As Serk said, adding SSD drives and increasing the RAM are easy ways to make machines work faster and better.

SSD hard drives are mistakes,,, the solid state part will crap out on ya where as the old drives just keep on going and going...

a 486  or maybe its a 386 I am not sure running 3.1 DOS  and word for dos not hooked to internet with a real joystick port to play Chuck Yeagers air combat
floppy drive

and a couple of Dell desktops   everything backed up to the cloud on the Dell's and calendar synched to my android phone

have an original PC Jr in my basement at home
