Seems like a no brainer to me. Bikes were made to ride. I'm not into art.

Hell Yeah I'd ride it!!

While serving in the Marines, my two best buds both traveled to Japan and each purchased a KZ900.

The serial numbers were a bunch of zeros and a 2 for one, the other was the same # of zeros and a 3.
One road the hell out of his, the other not so much.   The not so much bike ended up in his living room for years as a conversation piece.    He eventually sold it to some collector and it ended up back in Japan.    But, which one do you think had more fun on their KZ900?

1500 Valkyries are works of art.  Smiley more so than any other bike (yes, my opinion here) that are to be ridden.  I'm not a huge v twin guy but the Shadow Tourer sure looks good also.   cooldude

RIDING is what these fine machines were made for! I'm relatively certain that Honda Motor Co. has at the very least one Valkyrie in their museum. One or two in a museum is enough. Put some new tires on her sync the carbs and ride the SNOT outa her.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

I really like the blue in the valk but not so much white.  I do like the red and cream color though.  If they made an all blue I'd be all in or a nice one color maroon red like one of the I/S's are for I think ONLY 1 year.  Blue and silver is nice as well.

Pretty impressed with paint and chrome though hard to beat 15 years old and looks 4-6 years old is all even if has tons of small scratches, etc.

It was funny today my neighbor trying to sell his HD ultra classic again put it outside and I guess fired it up 3-5 times while my other neighbor had an auction since they are moving to AZ soon being retired.  My guess is not one looker from  the auction came over to inspect it and at near 10K for a 2003 HD,  I'll take my 2001 Valk I/S for 7K with less miles as well.  Might not be as spotless or HD logoed, but just feels like a much bigger, more powerful bike.

Well, I have changed my clothes, but my last haircut was in 1997, so it's at least partially correct.

Is there a story to the bike in the crate?

Yeah, there is. At the time I was helping put my newly wed wife through an expensive private university for her bachelors degree, the deal was I got to get any motorcycle I wanted when she graduated the next spring.

I was just looking, getting a feel for what I wanted. I had mostly settled between a Valkyrie or a Suzuki Bandit 1200. The Valkyrie's were in the $12,000 - $14,000 range at the time as I recall.

While browsing the Valkyrie's a few days before Christmas a salesman approached me and said they had a lot of leftover '98s still in crates (This was in late 2000) and if I'd buy one before Christmas they'd sell it for $8999, throw in the 7 year warranty and get me, I think it was %3.9 financing (This was 16 years ago now, sorry if the details are a bit fuzzy.)

Now, I wasn't supposed to get a motorcycle for a few months still, but...

I turned to my lovely new bride (We'd just gotten married the month before) and said

"You have ten seconds to tell me no."

"Well, we were planning on waiting until"

"9"

"Should we consider"

"8"

"What about the"

"7"

This went on 'till I got to zero, "Well, you didn't say "no""

And the rest is history...

I would keep it in the crate. I have a near new 97 in my garage that I ride every now and then, just to keep it fresh. It is a very nice motorcycle with only 12k on it. It belongs to a friend of mine that lives overseas. There are plenty of ridden Valkyries out there but very few in the crate. I would be happy to ride the three or four that are in my garage and let the boxed one gain value.  cooldude

On sunny Sundays to morning breakfast!
If I only knew then what I know now. I remember grabbing the mail and walking into the house. I saw the Cycle World magazine and threw all the other mail on the counter anxious to see what was on the cover. Low and behold, it was the Valkyrie. I shook my head and mumbled to Abbey and Brandey (our 2 Labs), who wants a stripped down Goldwing? Certainly not me! I was too young (33) and too kool! Threw the magazine on the counter and took the girls for a walk.

Since I have others to ride,

I believe that I would have it prepped for long term storage and stored in a storage locker somewhere in AZ.

Someday, I might have the last remaining Valk in the world.

Then, the question of: Would you ride it?

Becomes even more complicated.

I really like the blue in the valk but not so much white.  I do like the red and cream color though.  If they made an all blue I'd be all in or a nice one color maroon red like one of the I/S's are for I think ONLY 1 year.  Blue and silver is nice as well.

The 97 I have is Purple/white.
The 98's were blue/white.

The 2001 I/S maroon is the one I have on my hack rig.  Nice color!  I like that a LOT better than standard red.

Oh Yipes! I wish!   No, I just look at 1500 pics alot, it is my bike porn search time and this time I was on Flickr and found it.  As best as I can tell this was taken somewhere in Europe and the pic was taken many years ago. Looks like the last picture of it is where it was on the showroom floor.  It was just the thought that came up in a text conversation with "Sixlow" hence the poll. I have two Valks and I doubt the boss would allow a third at this time, hoping in a year or so.  angel

There is an IS rider who used to be a part of our Florida group and moved to NC who said his local Honda Dealer had a Black 03 still in the crate!

And I would ride it.  cooldude
