I KNOW my feelings on this. Anybody makin-what-60 mil? not worried where the next meal be comin from BUT his "protest" should have found a better venue. As ex Military I have no use fer his "protest'. And DO NOT tell me he has a 'right to do that-I already know THAT-i just don't agree as to HOW he went about it! RIDE SAFE.

I'm a 58-year-old white male. If anybody tries to tell me I'm privileged I might punch them in the face. My wife and I have had to work for everything we have, to make sure our kids have everything they need to get a good start in life, just as our parents had to do. Nieither of us came from wealthy families, and nothing was ever handed to us. My wife is, in fact, of Hispanic descent, actually having immigrated here (LEGALLY) with her family when she was four years old, but she has never resorted to using it to her advantage. As far as she is concerned, she is a white American.

Now Colin Kaepernick has decided to disrespect this country, which admittedly has its problems, by sitting through the National anthem to protest racism and the oppression of minorities in America. I will not deny that racism is still prevalent in this country, though I sincerely believe we had been making better strides toward improving race relations before the current administration took office. I will not deny that Kaepernick has every right to protest however he sees fit, because that's still one of the things that's great about this country.  But I will contend that, much like the current administration, what he's doing and how he's chosen to go about it is going to do more harm to his cause than good. Why? Because it is further dividing the sides, when what needs to happen is to bring them together.

What exactly is he expecting to accomplish? Calling attention to the fact that there is racism in America? Who is it that needs to be reminded of that? Is anyone with a functioning brain not already aware? What does he expect will be the outcome of this 'protest'? Are all of our leaders going to suddenly take notice and legislate racism out of existence? If you ask me, it's a lazy and cheap way to bring attention to himself, not the issue he's protesting. Why doesn't he seek an audience with his government leaders, local police departments, or whoever else he thinks is responsible and find out what he can DO to help solve the problem rather than sit on his ass and make it worse? Would that not be a more effective use of his time (and wealth) than making this divisive statement that, in the end, accomplishes less than nothing?

Sorry, I know this subject has the potential to be explosive, but I'm fed up with people who's actions in this area who claim to be trying to improve things -- the Jacksons, Sharptons, and even the bonehead in the white house -- are in fact making things many times worse. I needed to vent, but I'm also curious to hear where everybody else is on it.

Stand for the national anthem or no $

It is not like they have to swear to a religion, just show some freakin respect for all who died were injured or served for our freedom

I'd like to add something..... but you said it all.

Except perhaps, speaking of equality,  I never had anything like this (who do I talk to about it?)

Colin Kaepernick signed a 6 year, $114,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including a $12,328,766 signing bonus, $61,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $19,000,000.

I didn't even touch on this aspect of it -- I kind of assume respect toward the military (or disrespect) is included in any symbolic protest against this country, whether it's the flag or the anthem or whatever. But it is so true, these kinds of statements are absolutely a slap in the face to the men and women in uniform who died giving the very people who make them the right to do so.

My first thought when this story came out: if you have so little respect for this country that has given you, an oppressed minority,  the opportunity to make your millions of dollars playing a $&@)%# game, then leave.

How many "fans" will continue to pay for tickets and buy the merchandise and buy the advertisers product so that the NFL who is doing nothing about him can suck up the money for their tax free status.

How many "fans" will continue to pay for the myriad ESPN channels when the talking heads don't seem to be that concerned about his actions.

Sure everyone will have a little moan about it until the next distraction comes along.

I'm sure he donates a good chunk to charities -- most if not all of them do, either through their own charities or others. That's one thing I'd have to acknowledge -- even some of the players I despise because of the thuggish image they like to portray usually donate a lot back to their old neighborhoods.

Oh, I'll bet they're all plenty concerned and would love to get a piece of the obvious views and page hits they'd get, but the whole thing is too much of a powder keg. No matter how they choose to approach it, they're gonna piss off a lot of people. I think they all know they'd better stick to reporting the story and leave the pontificating to somebody else. Nobody wants to risk that potential backlash.

They probably only donate to offset the income tax that they would pay and as to the fans If they are stupid enough to pay big money to see those people chase a ball around they are too stupid to boycott his games.

I am surprised some of his teammates, like the offensive line,  do not let some of the defensive line come in free and clear to give a good shot to him to the head.   A head shot might get him thinking otherwise.

I have absolutely zero respect for  Kaepernick. Find a different way to make a statement. For anyone who has lost a loved one who was fighting for our country it has to be a horrific insult for anyone to disrespect our flag and National Anthem. in my book Mr. Kaerpernick is a jerk. Niners should take him for a visit to a Veterans hospital and see some of the young warriors who have lost limbs and such to protect this country he is protesting.

Minnesota Vikings just played there first game in there new $1.1 billion digs. I wish I could find a part time job that pays 61 mill. We have Adran Peterson that got slapped around after his arrest for beating his 5 year old. He got a year off paid vacation and lost most of his sponsors. He's back now playing for the Vikings. It seams sports fans have a short memory. Think of Mike Vic.

I own a business, and have for 30 years. There's no politics, personal messages, or opinions allowed to be displayed at my business, by myself or my employees. Work is work, period. What you do or say outside work is your business, as long as it doesn't interfere with the overall business. I've seen Sports figures in basketball and now football try to invoke politics and opinions in Sports this year. I think it best to come, do your job, put in your best effort, and go home. Period. On a personal note, I used to like kaepernick, I now think he's a jerk!

OK, now it's gotten downright ignorant and offensive. When asked specifically about what he feels needs to be changed, he responded:

"There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality. There's people being murdered unjustly and not being held accountable. People are being given paid leave for killing people. That's not right. That's not right by anyone's standards."

SFPD is demanding an apology and that the NFL separate itself from his words and actions. This is completely irresponsible, going beyond counterproductive and has now become dangerously inciteful. I can't find the words to express my disgust.

Whether he likes it or not, his position makes him a de facto representative of the league. Can you imagine the repercussions if any of us reflected this way on our employers? I don't understand how the league can just stand by and let this happen. It's sickening.

He's totally clueless. FYI, Jehovahs Witness believers dont stand for the anthem either.
The Tigers had a second baseman back in the 80's, his name was Lou Whitaker. He would stay in the dugout during the anthem.

Let's see, he lives in AMERICA, is paid very well in AMERICAN money by AMERICANS . Has the freedom of an AMERICAN only because AMERICAN people fought and died for his freedom. Eats AMERICA food grown by AMERICAN farmers, just to name a few  and this ass bag doesn't respect our country, screw him! This is a racial black and white thing and no one can tell me any different.

Police officers and people in the service do the same jobs...fight everyday for our freedom. We may not agree with all that has happened but this IS still a great country and a great place to live. Respect that or get out!   tickedoff

He said he doesen't care if he loses his pay / job or his endorsements he will not stand. Sounds like a plan to me!

One would think the black community and players would boycott the entire NFL, since white owners buy and trade black men and use them for monetary gain. Would that not be a braver, more noble stand to make?
He should gain overwhelming respect from those he seeks to defend, all while donating all his filthy money to blm.

I think it would make more sense for him to give the entire 61 million to charities serving the oppressed. As they say "Put your money where your mouth is" . I suspect he is just another coddled athlete wanting attention. It's a shame because they all get tarred and feathered like this but there are some good dudes that quietly go about trying to help the disadvantaged.
