Not sure if I think this is brilliant or crazy  ???   I do know why he did it the shade is a wonderful thing when the blazin' sun is beating down on you with temps near 100 and the heat index well over 100 . I'm about 50 / 50 on this and I know many times I'd like to have such a " device " however I also see the " sail " factor ?   Thoughts ?

Below is another picture from this weeks Killboy Highlights . I just liked this for several reasons but mainly because its HOT .

i saw one of these several years ago going down the Interstate. They got off the same exit as me and went to the same gas station. The couple that got off of it were old. After talking to them for a few minutes he said he was 93 and she was 91. They had been riding since they were in their 20's. For the last 25 years they had traveled the country, Canada and even parts of Mexico. They had been Sturgis 15 times. Very cool people to talk to. He said he couldn't be in the sun much anymore and this was the only way he was still able to ride. Said it was very nice in rain when all the other bikes pull over he keeps going.

Saw 3 GW trikes with that setup a few weeks ago. They seemed to have no problem, but IMHO they are pretty ugly.
In the other pic, she needs to ditch the riding boots for high heels.

Big heavy bike with lots of wind protection anyway, it's angled like a spoiler and would provide a bit of pushdown at higher speeds.  It looks pretty sturdy.  On the other hand, just the IS alone can get a little squirrely in high side winds when stopped.  You'd need a thick skin, cause lots of folks would have an opinion about it.

She needs a few sliders on the bikini.

Or an armored bikini.

Frasier in Southeast Tennessee

« Reply #8 on: September 01, 2016, 08:14:21 AM »

There is a guy in Southeast TN that ides a GW with  top, and has for years.
He has a sun sensitive issue and needs the protection from the sun.
I used to see him out and about all the time in Hamilton county.
Have not seen him lately.

He never rides much over 65 mph, just cruzies along.

Can't tell from the picture if the material is solid or not.  It may be shade cloth which is full of holes but still blocks most of the sun. Might make a difference on any sail effect.

No real opinion on the shade/roofs, don't think I want one but to each their own.

In reference to the second pic, similar thoughts but, they did not have anything to do with her footwear.   Again, to each their own...................  Wink

I have similar thoughts.   My only real concern is, looks to me like you'd have to be a contortionist to get on and off.   I'm sure I'm worse casing it but, I don't bend as well as I used to.

It's way better than these.

But not these. (though I'm not sure this actually lowers the rider's temperature)

Apparently, these are available in 6-packs.
