Are the same frame the Goldwings of comparagle years used? Not sure where I heard it but seems it was at one of the Honda Homecomings one of their resident techs told me the early Valk frames were different from the Wings. Anybody know?

valkyrie frames are specific for the valkyrie. All GL Goldwings have the gas tank under the seat.

The GL1500 and Valkyrie are totally different in every respect, Frames are not even close. Drive shaft is longer and swing arm narrow.  the GL uses a single shock in the rear with an air bladder where the Valk has twin showa shocks. The list of differences are much greater than similarities.
Even the engine is different - different valve covers, GL has reverse gear and GL uses a dual V carb where the Valk is 6 individual carbs.

Also the GL is harder to work on  Sad

Basically, I figured the same way after looking at the two frames on Ebay; the Valk and the 1500 Wing. I'm well aware of engine differences and the gas tank was the first thing that crossed my alleged mind. Then when I compared side photos of the two side by side, differences jumped out at me.

I just found it interesting that many Wing owners have felt for some time that the frames were the same for both bikes and wouldn't take my views seriously. So, I thought I'd get a little more input for the next "discussion" on such an earthshaking topic. As for the 1500 Wings, they used two shocks....one a regular shock, the other an air shock. When I had my '92, I got rid of that mess and installed a set of good Progressive air shocks on both sides. Made Honda's OEM setup look and ride like a hay rack in comparison.

Actually no the GL1500 is the Goldwing (That is what the G stands for) and the Valkyrie is not a goldwing. Also the GL1500 only has one rear shock and an air bladder. I believe your information is incorrect.

Check out the parts catalogs and you will see the GL has an air bladder on the right and a shock on the left - the air bladder is just a hollow piston and does not act a shock it only adds pneumatic springing

I guess ProCaliber is wrong. right unit with air is called a shock absorber, left unit is called a cushion assy. every magazine I've read, calls both shock absorbers.

Funny you say that. I have a GL1500C and I have no gas tank under the seat. Mine sits directly in front of rider on top of frame.

So when I buy parts, it must be for a Honda Valkyrie , not a GL1500C?   Cheesy

T is Tourer
F is Interstate
A is America (USA)
AC is America California
Y is Canada (perhaps other countries too)
Europe, UK, and Japan probably have their own letters as well.

many years ago we were discussing the term GL, as it turned out according to Honda, GL means nothing more than just a production model, GL does not mean grand luxury, goldwing lazyboy or anything,,its just  GL with a 1500 engine...
