Need to get a key made

Anyone know who has the right key blanks for our bikes?

My spare is a Curtis HD74.  With the head to the top and the tip to the bottom, the rightmost 3mm is milled thinner.

a locksmith will have the correct key blank in stock, and will charge you for it for making a new key regardless if you have your own blanks.

I don't recommend making a copy of your used key. A worn key will wear out your locks pins,  Instead, have honda make you a new key off of the key code.

I didn't want to go down to the dealer so i found a place online that had the black key heads and cut my key with the provide key code.

I think I got 2 new keys with the black  head for $22 delivered in a week.

I went to ACE Hardware and the only blank they had that would work was a Suzuki blank.  It's a shade longer but, it works.

2nd on ACE Hardware. If it doesn't work initially, file the handle part of the key down the make the shaft of the key longer, and it will work.

I am a member over there for the old Wings as well, and had him make a key for my IS, as well as my Dads IS.  Very quick turnaround.

It is just a blank steel key, no fancy plastic on it.

Due to the age of my purchases, each new vehicle gets a New Key cut/punched from the Key Code, either off the key or in the book.

Then I label that one, and get a couple of regular copies cut from it. The new original gets labeled, and hung on my key hooks with all the rest. Costs about $15 from my local locksmith.

Thx for this tip.  True Value didn't have the right blank, while Big R did but the cutter machine was out of calibration or the user was.  Got the blank from him and had True Value cut it but they got it half right - would only work on one side of the dbl sided key.  Meanwhile I ordered 2 from this link, and they came in today.  Work fine, both sides of both keys in all of the locks. For about $20.  I had checked the local locksmith sites - they started at $88 for one vehicle key and went up from there - the second ne I found was $115. While all their other prices seemed reasonable, they were all off the scale on car/bike keys.  WTF.

Local dealer cut me one in 5 minutes with the code for $6. Although he used to be a repo man he had the tool to manually cut the key and it wasn't automated

This is a little off topic but while everyone's discussing keys I'll throw it out.

I see a number of (lucky) folks here have more than one Valk, or a Valk along with other bikes.

Though I have not reason to do it having only one bike, you can usually cut a double sided key to work in two different locks. As long as the take the same blank it should work fine as the lock only reads one side of the key.

Before cars started using programed keys I always had a single key for both my and my wife's cars (both the same brand).

Very convenient.

I realized that very quickly, filed a notch on the top part of the key. Notch up for my truck, down for my wife's car.

I searched online for Denver area locksmiths, went to several of their sites, and found them quoting ridiculous prices for cutting car keys.  Starting at $88 and up.  I said WTF, who would pay that? Not me but apparently enough folks don't know the value of the work and a dollar. Those quotes must be for desperate people who need a car key RIGHT NOW including on site delivery.  The other quotes for other keys were much cheaper. I got my keys using the number on the key from the online site linked above, paid $20 total for 2 keys and they work perfectly.

For any GTA locals, I found a key cutter in the Pickering Town Centre here in Ontario. It's a kiosk on the 2nd floor. He did an excellent job. Had the blank. $8 plus tax. Quoted by a key cutter at the bike show: $30. Ridiculous. This guy at PTC is my guy!

Can you get the key code if its been obliterated on the key?  Previous owner ground key down put it in a skull head valve cap, looks cool but no key code.  Did manage to get a couple made by a locksmith but would be nice to have a fresh key.

My key was like yours, ground down and mounted in a plastic circular ring that matched the ignition. The key guy found the key by matching the bottom of the blank (pointy part), not the top. So it shouldn't be too hard to find it.

The key code is also stamped on the hinge tab under the gas cap. I can't remember if you have to take the two screws out or not, but you can look easily enough and see it. Hope that helps.

Yeah there's a 3-char number there but on Jade it's different from the # on the key.  The key has 3 digits beginning with 0 while the number on the cap hinge tab is completely different,  Gxx. I wonder if they both produce the same key; are just different formats for the same key shape.  Have you had a key made from your number?  Do we have a locksmith on board here?
