You need to go to New England, generally around the first and second week of October. If time is of the essence, fly into Albany and rent a car. You're only about 27 miles from the SW part of Vermont. Our first trip up I couldn't believe the vivid colors, we ended up going back three more years in a row. I've been all over this country in the Fall, there are some beautiful spots this time of year but I've never seen anything like Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire in October. It's something you all need to put on your bucket list.  :cooldude:

When I lived in NY we would do Lake George in the fall and Laconia NH as well. We would ride the Kancamagus Hwy in NH in the fall, absolutely Awesome !! :cooldude:

I've always wanted to visit the upper Northeast. Closest I came was Boston for about 3 days. Would love to get up into Maine, New Hampshire etc...
Heard that it's beautiful country.

Someday!

The Kancamagus is a beautiful drive, done it many times. Another neat spot is the Queechee Gorge on the Woodstock Road, you can hike down into it and along the river. It's SW of Hartford, VT.  One of the neatest little towns in that area is Woodstock, NW of the gorge. Not THE Woodstock of fame but a neat little town. One day in Woodstock we were walking down the main street and came upon a church haveing a bake sale. Sitting off to one side was this little old lady, really old, with a huge piece of apple pie in her hand and just gnawing it up with a big smile on her face. The comical part was....she didn't have a tooth in her head but there wasn't one bite going to waste. Rita asked if she could take her picture and she got all flustered, said her hair wasn't combed, no make-up on, Rita said it didn't matter. Found out later that little lady was 98 yrs. old and walked everywhere she went, had lived in that town her entire life. Imagine the history and secrets that she knows of the town's folk.   ;D

I was born and raised in Southern VT, and other than 2 years in Vietnam, I had 39 years of New England Foliage to enjoy.

Grew up on Lake Winnipesaukee. :cooldude:
Doug, on one trip Rita and I were staying a few days on that lake, perfect weather made the decision for us. Early one morning I kept hearing a roaring engine from somewhere and spotted an amphibian plane doing take-offs on the lake. I went to check on it, found out he was selling rides over the area so I headed back to get my camera. Ended up I was his only passenger on that run and he let me take the controls for a few minutes prior to landing. My first and only time flying a seaplane. I got some great pics, after we docked he commented how smooth I was on the controls....then added "you wouldn't be hiding something from me, would you?"  I just winked and flashed my private ticket, we had a good chuckle over it. Nice guy, young and ambitious with a beautiful young family.

When I was stationed at Pease AFB in Porstmouth back in '58-'60, my wife and I used to drive up there for a one day get-away. Couldn't afford to do much else on military pay at the time so the car was our outside entertainment. We loved that area, all kinds of quaint little places to see and visit. Great memories were made there and Hampton Beach.

All you guys cut it out! You're making me homesick. All the places you mention John (and others) were places we rode all the time. Nowhere finer in the fall!  :cooldude:
The key thing is to wake up breathing! All the rest can be fixed. (Except Stupid - You can't fix that)
