limb once again.......our Landscape Administrator retired a few months ago.....my old boss of 18+ years got his job...now her "old" job of Project Coordinator is up for grabs.....she's only supposed to stay around for a couple of years until she retires.....and she's told me she knows I can do her old job, but our Dept. Director(who was close to the old boss) is going to get a lot of pull in the matter since he'll be dealing with possibly promoting THAT person to full landscape mngr. when the time comes.....there are 3 Supervisors under that Asst. position, only one has been there for a longer time than me.....and I know outside candidates will apply.....it'd be a big change going from "Boots on the Ground" to sitting behind a desk and a lot less physical work, but I realize my body won't allow me to keep going at the pace I have been for the last 20+ years I've been here......I guess nothing ventured, nothing gained..... Undecided Undecided.......I got along great with my old boss who runs the whole show now.....I was her right hand man when she was the Buildings Landscape Supervisor......she was over voted when they filled THAT old job with another woman from the outside.....it's something that she still may not have the final say over...I'm just not sure I want to be that far out on a limb again........... Sad Sad

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

On the other hand, there's nothing like being self-employed.  Is really about the money?  I work for me, I will never be rich, but I am happy.

I make pretty good $$ right now.....max out on accrued vacation...lots of sick time in the bank.....but it's not really about the $$...more like the respect for a job well done for 20+ years.....dedication, work ethic/morals, etc.....I now have my house and credit card paid off.....my tractor payment(other than utilities) is the only payment I have.....oh, and insurance on the vehicles.....all the actual vehicles are paid off......I plan on ramping up my side tractor business now that it's cooled off a little....most brutally hot summer in Athens in the last 113 years of weather records....... Shocked Shocked
