I'm the night owl, the Vampire, I've worked nights forever. So when I'm off I like to ride at night. Had the Fat-Girl out and running this morning, left the house about 0230, just cruizin, enjoying the weather. It's rained here the past 4 days, I was off all 4 days. Tonight the weather took a turn for the better, I have to work the next 3 nights, so tonight is my "chore night", clean the house, do laundry etc. My fiancee went out with the girls tonight, one of them had a birthday, so all my chores got done early. The Fat-Girl is running great, but it sounds loud, road noise/tire noise loud. I have those TPMS caps on my tires, they ain't blinking, kick the tires, they got air, ride on and it seems like the brakes are dragging, all of a sudden she got really squirrelly in the ass end, luckily there was a gas station open at 0400 a couple hundred yards down the road. I make it up to the air machine, get some quarters from the girl inside, pump her up and make it the next 3 miles to my house. Tire is still up, quick look, i didn't see anything sticking out of the tire. I'll jack her up and check on her Monday. Oh Well, I guess I'll have to ride the Fat-Boy to work.

Nice report until the tire issue! Night time tire issues can be down right dangerous. Glad everything worked out. I recently had to repair a rear that had caught a 16 penny nail..........

Do you still have the OEM valve stems on the tires? If so, gently push on the rear one to see if air leaks out. If you have them, GET RID OF THEM! Jake Wilson is the place to get oid ones.

If it is metal all the way to the wheel they are the right ones. If there is a rubber part next to the wheel they are OEM.

More specifically if you press on it a bit and it moves it is OEM, not metal through the wheel.

Once I got a valve stem leak in the south of France, 800 miles from home, and this was caused by the heavy tpms caps I had on my bike. Cost me another day to get that fixed. I'll never use those tpms caps again, they weren't reliable anyway.

I was thinking that same thing, the extra weight of the TPMS caps on the end of the valve stems, flexing the valve stems and causing a leak. As of about 20 minutes ago when I got home from work, the tire is still holding air.

My bad stem held air overnight as well but it was still bad. Did not want to trust it any farther than it took to ride to a place nearby to replace it. (About a mile at 30 mph)

If it is the OEM stems you have the leak will be small until you ride. The gyro force will move the end outward and open the crack. Been there done that.

Nope, & TPMS caps won't effect the metal stems if they were installed properly. Spray everything with Windex Glass Cleaner (valve core, stem, bead, tread, sidewalls) leak will be obvious no matter how small. Old "two bay" tire shop trick, works like a charm

I have Jake Wilson valve stems but haven't installed them yet.
Do I need to remove the wheels to install the valve stems or can rage bead be broken with the wheels still on the bike?

It can be done with boards and clamps but it isn't easy unless you've done it multiple times. I replaced the stem on Mama's bike with the help of my brother without removing the wheel but it was a chore. I but my metal stems from Patchboy for about two and a half bucks each (plus shipping). I give a lot away. Friends don't let friends ride on OEM valve stems.

Finally checked it out, I ripped a valve stem. Probably the extra force of the TPMS cap, Oh well, off with the wheel, new stem. the one on there is a 90 degree rubber one.

NO.... You need TWO new valve stems. Chromed steel like has been mentioned several times so far. The OEM stems are bad news on the Phat Gurls.

In fairness the OEM stems should work fine so long as you replace them with every other tire change (eleven bucks each) and be sure to keep the stay in place.
With the metal stems there's no replacement requirement and no need for the stay.
To me that's a no brainer.
