This guy was way closer than I would ever get. This is about a half mile from where I grew up.

Keep 'em coming...I enjoy these videos from Alaska. I agree, I sure wouldn't stick around that close either. I've had close encounters with moose before, but just one at a time (one was even Valkyrie-related...galloped up towards us on a secluded road we were headed down in the Cariboo a couple of years ago  Wink ), not two like this throwing their racks around like that....powerful animals.

Yeah, the guy is really lucky he didn't get trampled. A lot of people back home are all over him for doing this. As he called them in an area where people hike and bike. And it's against park rules too. Really in my opinion the only reason he didn't get hurt was they were oblivious to him. They are full of hormones right now and have only one thing on their mind.
Talking about videos from AK. I sure wish they had these GoPro things back in the day.

2funny Reminds me of one time my brother and I were hunting. We were up on top of a small mountain glassing and spotted a nice bull making his way up the valley. We would try to get him to come up by imitating the sound of bulls fighting like those were. He would stop and look each time but wouldn't come up. Finally we gave up and started imitating a Cow moose in heat sound. That sucker immediately came all a full charge straight up the mountain. He was at full tilt, he was coming so fast we had to scurry for cover as to not be seen. He ended up coming right to us within 25 feet. He was a lover not a fighter. We referred to him as the "John Holmes" bull for years afterwards.  Smiley

Moose are really big critters, I wouldn't wanted to be that close to those two bulls.   The loser might have wanted to tackle someone else.

I have been closer to a cow/calf moose while hunting elk close to Yellowstone park.  I was walking on two feet of snow with snowshoes, trailer type-kind of narrow and 5' long.   I walked around a small patch of fir and was suddenly face to face with the cow.  about 10' away from her.  I didn't want to shoot here in self defense so started talking quietly to her telling her how nice she and her calf looked.  While trying to back up.  Not sure how many of you have been on snowshoes but they are not designed to go backward.  But it can be done.  I also clicked the safety off.

As a side note, moose are not the most beautiful critter out there, so lying to her was also a chore.  AND  I stand some 6'4" tall standing on two feet of snow.  The cow and I were looking eye to eye.  Yeah they are a tall big critter.
