I have an interstate and always thought it leaned over too much and I parked next to another interstate the other day and mine does lean over too much, I checked everything and it looks fine, even when I put the kick stand up it looks right up next to the exhaust, has anyone had this problem? I put a block of wood under the stand to bring t up alittle, I could weld a small piece of metal to the bottom but that would look bad.

Make sure the cross member isn't bent, you don't want to fix the wrong problem

Yeah I checked all that everything looks good, there is a lift adaptor that s mounted in between the cross member and kickstand do you think that might be the problem?

I would think the addition of the adapter would do the opposite, lower the stand, should make it lean less.

Do you have OE size tires mostly the rear 180/70?

The length of shocks will sometimes do that but I think that would show in a side by side comparison.  It just takes a little extra height to make a deeper lean.

Otherwise someone may have tried to bend the stand enough to make up for the extra of the lift adapter?

Now, that there is puzzling.  The shorter tire seems like it should again bring the stand to the ground sooner therefore, less lean.

It's looking more likely the PO needed to do something to get her to lean more.

Check the stand closely

I have a tour model here at my house, I'm going to switch kick stands and see what happens, also I'm going to put them side by side and see if I can see anything different , thanks for the help.

I wouldn't take one off,  just measure them. Maybe the Tourer and the IS are different lengths?? Dunno.

Was interested, because my IS leans too much, and it already has a "hockey puck" bolted onto it's foot. The 99 Tourer and IS have a different part number for the side stand. Put does it mean they are different?

Will need to find out. I don't have my stand from my wreck. I'm sure once I get a taller tire (Austin TT), I'll need to fix this problem. I see nothing wrong with my cross bar.

Yeah I haven't found anything yet but Monday I'll probably switch kick stands and see what happens and get back with you.

I'm thinking either the kick stand is bent or as Carl suggested, where it mounts is bent.  One is easy to fix, the other, not so much.   Shocks and kick stand length can make a difference but with the tires he's running, leaning over more is not an option, it should be standing up straighter.

Either that or, you need to stop putting the kick stand down while over pot holes.  Wink

I may have solved the mystery, Jess you have the perfect situation to test my theory.

I'm thinking play in the stand to mount joint could be a huge factor.  Jess, if you could, with the bike on a lift or just supported without the side stand and put the stand in the down position and try lifting it up and down and see if one has more play than the other. 

Worth a shot

Jeff, I'm far from home up in Belleville MI with family (on one bike).  I rarely get both bikes out at the same time,  but I will try to remember to check this in the future.  It's no big deal, except when I get my trunk bike out for the first time in months (it's the big leaner), when I put it on the stand, I think it's gonna fall over.
