I'm not sure that's the adjective I would use.  Undecided

I dont know if I would describe it as taking the bait either. Since there is no bait to be taken only a story on what the future holds or what direction cars may be taking. It actually was in Popular Science many years ago. I really dont think any that try to refute 98 posts really have anything constructive to say its more like knee jerk reactions since how can you refute the truth of whats happening.

I think it's the 'truth' part...

Exactly my thoughts also,

That is why I wonder what the real problem is, not reading the post or not being able to see where things are leading. This post is not debatable really but maybe that is the same problem with political posts they don't see the logical progression or conclusion and take every decision as a independent random decision.

Right now we no longer have the real control of our cars, most are fly by wire. Brakes are already controlled by ABS and automatically take over throttle function and we see lately more and more autonomous cars. It has also been talked about in the insurance business for years to take humans out of the equation. So what the heck, this is not really political or candidate related.

So, you think it is not true that the direction we are taking is auto driving of cars, and that you do not think eventually it will be ONLY auto control?  I do think that is true. A number of car companies are saying by 2020, only three short auto years away, they will have auto control cars.  I do not think it is a far reach to say that not too long after that they may be mandatory.

Think of all the controls, rules, regulations, laws, restrictions we now have, that I am very sure our Founding Fathers would have NEVER thought possible.

They know the type of posts from the OPer and automatically make assumptions regarding content.  And prolly the word "commie" confirmed their assumptions,

So going the other way, I mean entirely the other way
my brother has imported quite a few old jeep type vehicles from different south american countries that are similar to jeep 4x4 but with no computers no fuel injection, just real tough vehicles, Ive been in a few of them very cool

He calls them EMP proof cars, people are buying them

If interested PM me

And yes these cars are sealed in the country of origin and nothing is smuggled in them, they are entirely cleared by customs broker down there

I actually just bought a class B motorhome (van style). It's a 77 Dodge and It has ,get this, A carburator. What am I to do with it when it don't work. Oh I forgot ,I can fix it. Open the hood and tinker with it. Ok I'm joking,I have that and a 93 ford f150 and a 95 Buick. Those two are a little more complicated but not much. Driverless cars and cars all run by computers,Keep them. At my age of almost 74 I don't need that and will probably not live to see changes like that.

Hey if people aren't in control of or don't own their cars there will be no more  insurance required and if an accident happens it will be on the manufacturer.  uglystupid2

For many of the drivers I encounter, both they and I would be much safer if their car were controlled by a computer. As for me, I like the idea of electronic engine controls and ABS, but would prefer to do the actual driving myself. I might be convinced to let the car take over for a drive on the Trans-Canada Highway on the prairies, however.

I can’t see self-driving vehicles going everywhere that cars do now. There are just too many unknowns. Also the fact that someone would figure out how to hack the system and cause all kinds of problems.

I do see a self-driving vehicle lane or lanes where you can hit a “merge” button that would take over control and move the vehicle into this lane. Then when you want you can hit the “exit” button to get you out. I think that most people would want this.

Thanks, David in Fletcher NC
