Ran into I guy I've talked to in the past and did a little ride with this summer. He a HD guy and has dumped a lot of money to buy it and then beef up the motor too. He prob got 45 thou in it.and its brand new.  So he has a friend with him I didn't know and we talking riding and how hot its been. Normal summer in bama. 95 plus, with high humidity, for the past 4 months. Any way, I happened to mention how its a little warmer due to the heat coming off my motor. Now the other guy doesn't know what I ride and says, " I don't think mine makes a difference, HD guy too. Well the HD guy I know, puts his finger up in his his face and says, " He has a Honda Valkyrie, with six into 6, his motor is same as most cars on the road, and it will blow my bike away." Same guy that has dumped all that money into his. I just smiled and thought to myself, That's why I love my girl. Grin Grin Grin Grin

PS.. Paid 4400 for mine.  2funny

I don't know which HD I can blow away and which ones I can't because I don't race.  However, I know a lot of HD riders, I do smile every time one says something that proves that many of them guys respect out Valkyries.  Not necessarily because they think we can smoke them, more for the same reasons we love these machines.

One time I was in Daytona Beach riding by myself on Speedway Blvd.  A couple 1% riders moved up right on my rear wheel.  I mean, so close I was waiting to get bumped or something, it was disconcerting to say the least.

Well when we came to a red light the one closest to me pulled along side of me,  Instead of the threatening or intimidation I was anticipating, he gave me a nod and handed me his card as the light turned green, all he said was "shoot me an email"

I did, never got a response, but I felt like there was mutual respect.

Shortly after I got Her when on a local-bout 80 miles from lacasa-poker run. After I registered and paid my money I went back out to the parking lot. Kinda like a hooker in church-ONLY Valkyrie there. When I went over to my ride some person I did not know started in on the rice burner kaka and wanted to race his "built" H/D for pinks against mine. I said why the hell not. His bud jumped between us and informed his friend-if this guy knows how to ride your bike is history. They both looked at me and I grinned. Kinda neat watchin big mouth back down. Even if "THEY" don't know-I DO!  cooldude RIDE SAFE..

Anyone that knows anything about motorcycles, knows what a great bike the Valkyrie is.

Today, riding with my buddy Jack who rides a really nice Road King, we were putting on our gear after breakfast and a guy walks up, points at my bike and asked "Who makes that bike?"

Before  I had the chance, Jack says "Honda. And it's a great bike.  I should know, I've followed it all around the place"

Four yrs ago I pulled up to a traffic light and to my right sat a black Tourer. Could not take my eyes off of it. Mind you this all happened in a matter of 60 seconds. Rolled the window down, caught the guys attention, Said " what the heck is that? " He pointed to the tank badge, smiled and the light changed. Love at first sight. Went home, googled it,  started reading every thing I could find. Bought mine as a retirement gift to me.  I love her because she is the most amazing looking bike on the road, dependable and because she is mine.

I come and go through the garage most times. If not getting her out to ride I still stop and admire her beauty after 3 years of owing her. I love my Fat Gurl....... Thank you Joe Boyd  cooldude

My story is somewhat like that. I had a Suzi GSX 1100g and was looking on local Craig's list at GSX 1100g's and the ad said selling due to buy a Valkyrie. I said what is a Valkyrie and Googled it. I had a black IS a month later.   Went to meet up with my brother in law who had a v-star, he had a tourer a month later.   cooldude

This past week I attended a family reunion of a part of the family I have not seen for 25 years, (except for one brief meet with a couple of them 15 years ago).  My favorite older cousin (+6) growing up, his 3 kids, and their wives and kids, and others.   My cousin and his sons are lifetime Hog guys. (When I was like 12yo, I watched him finally get an old beater 1200 panhead running, jump on and take off down the driveway full speed, and right through a solid wood fence.  The throttle cable had stuck/broke wide open.)

They were riding in, so no way I was not riding in too.

After the initial handshakes/hugs, we kicked tires.  My cousin is 69 and triked his Hog a couple years ago (knees/football/wife on back), and tells me his transfer case cracked and he continues to have electrical and other problems.  He asked all kinds of questions about the valk.  I got nothing but compliments on it from them all (yeah, it's family, but not even joking/ribbing). Then he says (just a bit sheepishly) he's been looking at 1800 Wing trikes and made up his mind to get one.

You could've knocked me over with a feather.

Unrelated, but continuing:  They trailered up a couple big 4-wheelers and a mini dirt bike, and the kids went wild running around my brother's long grass runway (FAA approved).  First the older ones like 12-15, but then they taught the younger ones to ride them (5 and up), sitting behind, then alone, and then with each other.  All wearing gear/helmets and no injuries of any kind.  I never saw 15 kids have so much fun (and all get along perfectly) in my life.  The only kid who did not get to drive one was the 2 1/2 yo, and he was pissed off about it.   Grin

My mother of 87 is the sole matriarch (aunt/great aunt) to this crowd who were all the progeny of her deceased oldest sister, and she got paid a lot of nice attention.  She'd had a little back problem and was walking a little crooked, and the young men took her arm whenever she went anywhere.

You could have knocked me over with a feather, again.

Similar story here years ago. Stopped in a local HD dealer that also sells metrics. Young guy mouthing off about my Valk being a "Fat Boy Wannabe" (????) when an older guy told him my ride "would make his Fat Boy whine like a skinny bitch". I was cracking up as he walked away mumbling...... Grin

i tell this story often but when i had my 98 cream and red i was running down the i-state about 75 and these bikes that sound a little like harleys were catching up to me so i gassed it a little and they did the same,, i could hear their exhaust because i was running truck stacks with glass packs inside. well this went on for about 20 miles and I looked back and the rider behind me was looking side to side and swerving a little so i pulled over to ask him if he was having a problem so we stopped on the shoulder and i asked, " you ok?" he said o hell yea, i said you were swerving a lot back there i and i saw you looking form side to side and he said hell i was trying to see what kind of engine you had on that harley but i topped out at 105 you  just kept going,,,we laffed a bit and then went about our way...

good stories.  I could have had a 03 HD ultra classic in my garage for my neighbor when I first bought my valk i/s was bragging up he has raced 1800 wings and blew them away no problems which is doubtful to begin with.  I asked if he wanted to race for pinks since got sick of him bragging up his overpriced HD.  He did NOT want to race me though, wonder why?  I know an 1800 wing will barely beat my valk i/s but I knew he was blowing smoke bragging up how his 88 cu inch HD will easily over power and blow away a 1800 wing.

Not saying I would beat him by much, but at the time his HD was worth 12K or so vs. mine 8K, nice little profit selling it paying for 1/2 my bike cost at the time.  Now,  he is trying to sell it with a flood of older ultra classics for sale flooding the market getting out of riding since age 60 and health issues only asking 9-9.5K vs. my valk around 7K in value.    LOUDNESS does not equate to speed and power most often.

Funniest moment ever had was coming out of grocery store after I finally cleaned and waxed my valk i/s and 2 what appeared to be HD guys saw from a distance them coming up inspecting my bike and when they saw it was a HONDA walked away briskly from it.   You had to be there since was funny since pretty sure they thought it was an all black HD from a distance with a shiny chrome engine.

If I ever sell the valk,  it will be a newer, but used wing in my garage more than likely, even with all that plastic around me.

I've told this before about my visit to a local HD dealer. It was before my retirement nearly 13 yrs. ago, my office was only 2-3 miles from the dealer and I often rode the Valk to work....suit and tie was my uniform of the day. One day I rode to the HD dealer in search of some new grips, I pulled into their large parking lot, whipped into a large 180 and backed into a spot between a line of HD's. Nearby were two couples that had just arrived and they observed my arrival, but when I got off and gave them a nice greeting, all I got from the guys was a grunt. The ladies....I got ooooh's and aaaah's. I just smiled and acknowledged them and walked inside. Once inside an older gent standing at the large front windows called me over and while chuckling over it....pointed to the two guys. They were crawling around on their knees, looking under and over every inch of my bike, the women kept talking and pointing out different things on it. The guys didn't look happy, the gals looked excited. When I walked out after my purchase, a different older gent went with me, a fellow I had seen in there before and we chatted as we walked. Soon as the two "inspectors" of the Valk saw us they got up and turned their backs again. The guy with me chided them a little, apparently they knew him 'cuz they called him by name. Finally one asked what kind of HP the bike had, I simply told him it was quite adequate. The guy that walked out with me laughed and told them "enough to blow your bags off." I started up and rolled away, then decided to take a different route back to the office. An entrance to I-4 was only a couple blocks in the opposite direction so away I went. Got on the interstate and got on the throttle, the HD parking lot is next to I-4 and I was still winding out as I roared past. I hit the airhorns and waved, the older gent that walked out with me waved back with both arms up, the other two barely looked up but their women waved which got me laughing all the way back to the office. Would have loved to heard the conversation after I left.  Wink
