Outstanding ride today ... Great group

We had 10 bikes show-up this morning for the ride. I had this ride worked out in my head and it seemed to work great . We did a little of every kind of road The Great State Of Tennessee has to offer I will say I favor the roads with lots of curves that are near lakes , rivers and waterfalls . We made a stop at Elrod Falls and with the lack of rain lately not much water was flowing ( I've been here after heavy rains and this thing is rockin' ) .

Reb just moved to Tennessee from Iowa and Mitch from Illinois has a home he bought here as well and is still working on the moving part but making headway. Wimp hooked both up with brand new VOLS hats today he called it a baptism in joking. I can't believe I didn't get them both together for a photo. Here's Reb with his and after the win over the Florida Gators today it will be much easier for a newbee  to wear ( Its been tough being a Vols fan the last few years ) .



Some pictures from Elrod Falls ...Amazingly one of the most beautiful and accessible water wonders in East Tennessee remains a somewhat secluded area still waiting for people to discover it. Once you go, you will not only know why this is a must see; you will also know why not many people have found it.

Elrod Falls is in Hancock County about 10 miles from Sneedville. Elrod actually consists of a series of three waterfalls cascading off a steep ridge. From the parking lot at the base of the first falls, a quick stroll will get you into quick view of what most people refer to as Elrod Falls.

There are two pools of water at the base of the first fall with the closest being a popular spot for swimming. There are plenty of rocks to sit on and gaze at the water cascading down the flat rock wall. The pool of water at the base reaches a depth of about seven or eight feet, but is very narrow and several rocks in the bottom of the pool make it easy "walk" across. There is even a point on the left side of the falls where nature has carved out a seat where you can sit and let the water fall all over you.

As you look across the creek you will notice the start of a trail that will lead you up to Elrod Falls 2 and 3.






Got to give Reb credit for this picture of # 2 its damn near straight up and down getting here with slick rocks and tree roots all the way .




Lunch stop was at Amis Mills on the National Register of Historic Places. No pictures of the house sorry we had to go while they had seats to get the group in the Amis Mill Eatery. Its worth checking out and the roads around this place is made for motorcycling just google Amis Mill.

Amis House is a pioneer settlement in Hawkins County, Tennessee near Rogersville, built in 1780–2 by Thomas Amis, the father-in-law of Rogersville founder Joseph Rogers.

In addition to his stone house, which also served as an inn for travelers, Amis established a tavern, general store, distillery, saw mill, and grist mill. The property was surrounded by a palisade for protection from possible attack by Native Americans.

The Amis House property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Ownership of Amis House has remained in the Amis family. Current owners are Jake and Wendy Jacobs; Wendy is a descendant of Thomas Amis. Tours of the home and grounds are offered.

Great report as usual, always enjoy ride posts from down that area as it's one region I've always wanted to go to - TN, NC ....just didn't have enough time to swing that way this past June on my ride home from Inzane. "Git 'N Go", gotta love it...yep, don't see those up here that's for sure

What a blast today... and to top it off with a Vols win! I'm going to check out the Rattler tomorrow after I meet some fine southern bells at the laundry mat. 

Hoping I can get my cable and WiFi installed soon in the cabin along with the washer and dryer. So far I'm about 75% settled into Greeneville

   I have a much greater appreciation for Tennessee, having viewed a lot of it through your ride reports. My bike has not been out of the garage for a couple of years and sometimes I think I'm done riding. Then I visit the VRCC and the urge hits me again. Right now my wife and I are full time caregivers for our 2 new grandsons who are just now 9 months old. 12 hours a day, 5 days a week (mama and daddy have nights and weekends) leaves us pretty well wore out and we still have a 3 hour drive each way to go home and check on things.

    So the bike will sit some more, waiting for me to roll her out, freshen her up and point her into the wind. Until then, I will enjoy the ride reports and the politics

We had many ... Hope Brad comments ... The switch backs on the route's I choose will snick up on you.... I'll say this one of the best rides in awhile with folks that I dont normally ride with. The local homies are always tight.

Switchback.. 10MPH .... little  fast... wrong gear... head turned wrong.... took it a bit TOOOO wide....

Worked out fine as there was no oncoming traffic....

And Britman was to far back to see a complete newbie move....

Other than than I had Joe in my sights the whole time.. pretty good for a flatlander..

Just left Tennessee today and we are back in Illinois.  Oh well.  Sorry for the delay in posting what a fantastic ride it was on Saturday.  I headed over to Clinton Saturday morning to meet up with a group of great guys to ride on some exciting roads and view some amazing scenery - and I even got a hat with a big "T" on it!  Oh yeah, and while I was out riding Laura was back in Crossville working on the house. 

I think I'm really going to like Tennessee.
