tickedoff  This just toast my ass!  My best friends grand daughter's grand father passed away on her mother's side. The grand daughter is a cheer leader and a sophomore.

The parents took her out of school to take care of funeral arrangement's and to be with the family for 2 days. When she returned to school she went into cheer leader practice only to be told by the AD that since she had missed two previous practices (excused) that she would be unable to attend practice or cheer in Friday nights game. WTH is this? I don't even know the girl and this is crap!

she will get over it,  not so sure you will?

most high schools I believe if not mistaken, at least around me,  state if you missed the previous school day or same day,  you cannot participate regardless of reason in extracurricular activities that same day or next day.   I know it is B.S. but that is the school rule.

missing a couple of practices if same day or prior day might be the case here, not sure?

Wanna bet though if the star football player say being a QB at some school missed the prior day practice that he might get excused for it?   All depends on the athletic director in charge at some schools.

I do know that athletics in high school are way too TOP priority in some schools though and although important,  not tops in priority by far.

You hit the nail on the head,  specially when it comes to the Q.B. thing. She is upset only about the reasoning is all, and that's my point as well.

You are secondly (not a word) right about her getting over it and not me. I don'the have a dog in this fight but it grinds me. Now if it was my kid, myself and the A.D. might have a "come to Jesus meeting" if ya know what I mean.

I once got benched (starting tailback) because there was a rumor I had been drinking beer at a party the previous week.  I was pissed off; I had not been drinking beer at that party.... other parties yes.  We were down at halftime, so I got back in, and we won.

I never did find out who the rat was.  The coach was not invited to these parties.  It could have been the second string tailback, but he wasn't invited to these parties either (and he didn't drink beer, it would have made his halo fall off).

As I recall, if you missed a practice, you didn't play that week, and the reason for missing was irrelevant.  But I had no idea that cheerleaders had the same Genghis Khan for coaches.

she may have missed an important part of the routine and if she was to attend durning the game she could mess it all up because she did not get to practice it.. she will be the next week so she can strut her stuff,, dont fret about it..

Which Jess?  The one that said the coach is Genghis Khan, or the one that said she will be in next week, so don't fret about it?

The flip side. While the grand daughter was out of school to attend a funeral, the grand daughter missed cheer practice. While she was missing practice, another cheerleader stood in for her at practice, worked hard at the routines and learned them with the other cheerleaders.

The grand daughter returns and we kick the stand-in to the curb and give her (or him) nothing for their efforts in the preceding days?
Well that is not right either.

Let the stand-in cheer at the game, have the grand daughter cheer with them from the stands. Grand daughter returns to cheer team following week after returning to practices.

I don't' think they will say "We could have won that game if that guy's grand daughter was cheering."

Now if we are talking QBs, then winning a game could very well rest on said QB's participation in the game. You can't play QB from the stands.

This very thing happened to me when I played soccer in High School.  Great grandmother passed away, her funeral was on a wednesday, thursdays were always game days. I missed tuesday wednesday for it and came back to be told I couldn't practice or play in the game. I said good, then I guess you don't need me at all, they changed their attitude real quick and told me to go ahead and play. Told them no thanks I quit. We went from a 0-5 team to a 8-5 team that year  Grin never played another day of soccer since.
