We are renting a GW in NYC next week. I'd like to use Brenda's iPhone as gps for getting thru the city. Will one of the regular phone holders with the 1" bar clamps work ? If not, any recommendations ?

Simple answer is NO.  GoldWing does not have typical handlebars...

I use a Ram mount for my Garmin..

Nope, it's going to be an experience  ???
We have to go from Howard's Beach up to Ossining and then back in 3 days. I'm thinking of getting Brenda some of those "Back off Whips" 
We should be fine. I'll have her gps routed thru my Sena giving me directions. But it would be nice to see it also.

Maybe the rental company has a bike with a Ram ball already installed. Then you would only need a riser and X-mount. Failing that, Ram have a V- shape bas that fits my Spider and should fit the Wing.  http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-108BU

Be prepared for the expense of the Toll Booth. Almost every crossing requires a payment. EZ Pass is the best way to pay but you will not have time to get one. Exact Change lane is the next quickest but you will need a pile of coins and a good aim for that. Cash lane will have the longest lines and be the most dangerous. Get into the lane you need early. Leave plenty of space but not enough for someone to cut in front of you. NY is not like the rest of the US, if you leave any room, someone WILL pull into it.. Lastly watch the droppings in the toll lane. It's very easy to slide a tire on the crap that has been dropped there.. Oil, Anti Freeze, A/C condensate and what ever folks decide to pour out because they have to slow down anyway....

Good advice  Thanks. Oss said we would only have 1 toll up to his place. The rental people haven't been much help over the phone. They didn't even know where to get the ez pass . It doesn't look too bad of a route. Just a couple hiway changes.
I got lost once in Watts in '77 on my first big ride. After that everything else has been a Gravy Train.
