Okay guys, I am going on my first multi state ride next week.  I will be traveling from Seattle to San Diego via the Pacific Coast HWY. We will  then head to Arizona and check out the grand canyon. We're not sure which route we will take back to Seattle.

I have stock  wind deflectors for my Interstate.  fairing as well as the lower ones.  I've just never installed them.  For those of you that have experience riding long distances, do you recommend that I put them on my Interstate for this trip?  Will they reduce or increase buffeting? I've read some of the earlier discussions, but most of them dealt with after market deflectors etc.  Are they mostly only used for cold weather riding?

Thanks

Wa:
My interstate has the stock deflectors, I am going to remove them.
Not because of buffeting, there is none that I can tell. It's just that they are in the way. They don't seem to do anything and it seems like one day I will damage the pods by kicking the deflectors.

YMMV

I wouldn't bother to install the wind deflectors. i had them on my Interstate and my Standard, didn't notice any significant difference once I had removed them.

That's a nice trip, have fun!

Wind deflectors work great, they help keep rain off your legs, when turned out they blow air on the engine and remove the engine heat, it's like opening a window.  You may have to remove the stock ones on the fairing if you install the lowers, because they may hit each other. Out in your part of the country keeping the engine heat off of yourself would be reason enough to install them.

I have both an Interstate and a standard.  The deflectors make a much bigger difference on the standard.  Engine ones, turn in or out, depending if want heat or cool.  Fork ones on std help in keeping wind off, esp good in cool weather.  However, if hot, I take them off.  I want the air then.

On the IS, they just make less difference. The pods do a lot of what they do.  Turning the engine ones inside out, does help in getting cool air to me, just not as much as on the std.  The fork mounts, if you do not have them on now, I would not put them on.
