Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: October 02, 2016, 01:52:17 PM »

Hooked up with Preston ( Reb ) in my hometown of Clinton in The Great State Of Tennessee yesterday morning . No real plan on where to ride just ride . We made our way toward the north Georgia mountains. The Hiwassee River has its headwaters on the north slope of Rocky Mountain in Towns County in northern Georgia and flows northward into North Carolina before turning westward into Tennessee, flowing into the Tennessee River a few miles west of State Route 58 in Meigs County, Tennessee. The river is 147 miles . The weather this weekend was outstanding for motorcycling a light jacket in the morning and a long sleeve t-shirt in the evening.

We made a stop at Field Of The Woods in North Carolina this was the first time for Reb to see this place ( wish I had took a few more pictures of some of the other monuments ) .

The World's Largest Ten Commandments ....Even though they're 300 feet wide, they were kind of an afterthought.  A.J. Tomlinson was the visionary who built them. He was working for the American Bible Society when he encountered a sect of down-on-their-luck, speaking-in-tongues Pentecostals in the mountains of southwestern North Carolina. On the morning of June 13, 1903, A.J. climbed to a hilltop and met God; when he walked back down, he had a plan for the Pentecostals. Three years later he was running their sect, which he grew into a multinational protestant denomination that he named The Church of God of Prophecy. Work began on The Fields of the Wood on November 15, 1940. Its first monument was not the Ten Commandments, but a globe-topped obelisk marking the spot where A.J. conveyed his revelation to the Pentecostals. The second monument was the World's Largest Altar, 80 feet long, marking the spot where A.J. met God. A.J. said this was only right, since the Bible says that sacred religious sites should be marked with monuments .

Lunch stop was at T.W.0. Two Wheels Only in Sushes , Georgia after lunch we started thinking about where we was going to land for the night . I was thinking Clayton , Georgia however after a few calls we found out the motels in town was all booked with some kind of festival going on . T.W.O. was busy and I think the new owners will make this place work this time .

After some thinking we made the call to head for Robbinsville , NC and spend the night at Miss Reba's place The Phillips Motel . Outstanding ride it was a pleasure to ride with Reb this weekend and I look forward to doing it again.... Nice fire and few colds ones last night along with watching the Vols win with a Hail Mary pass to end the game ... Great Ride This Weekend.

Another good ride post.  Every time I see photos of streams in a place I've  ever been,  I  think about my other passion... fly fishing.  How's the fishing in East Tennessee?   Sure looks like a place we have to get to  one day soon cooldude

looks like the great state of TN needs some rain, water is low?

You can have some of ours the past few months lucking out on flooding nearby, but the darn grass is almost forcing me to mow 2x's per week, for sure more than once every week.   I have 3 push mowers now and now that I bought a decent, more powerful mower,  the wife wants to help mow as well taking both of us 40 minutes to mow the yard tonight vs. just me 1 1/2 hours.   Win-win in my book.
