Starting Monday October 3rd, the military begins paying for gender reassignment surgery for transgender soldiers that could cost up to 8.4 million dollars per year. The Defense Departments policy states that if a soldier's ability to serve is adversely affected by a medical condition or medical treatment related to their gender identity, they are eligible for reassignment surgery or hormone therapy, subject to a commander's approval for the timing".

I remember the old saw about if the (Marines, etc) wanted you to have a wife, they would have issued you one.  I guess now they can turn you into one.

The (not so) grand social experiment continues.

So there's no problem with money for guns and bullets and tanks and planes and ships.  That is not what I have been reading.

Why the US Govt thinks it (meaning me and you) should pay for sex change surgery for troops and felons in prison is simply beyond understanding.

I had to wait two years for an uber simple elective vasectomy.... duty first, and needs of the service; remember that?

I know that my father and grandfather's are now banging on their coffins to get out and
kick the assignment of who ever came up with this.
I don't understand how a person in that  situation would deal with the service in the first place

Put them all back in the closet!
They can do whatever they do--in the closet.
Close the closet door so the rest of us don't have to see....

The military spends money foolishly just like all of the rest of govt. controlled institutions.  I will try to not knock our military too much, but the amount of money they pay lt. colonels, etc. on up is crazy, plus all the fully paid moving expenses and homes they buy for them as well, in my opinion, is not right.  Would I want to move to wherever they tell me to go every few years or so especially with a family,   NO,  but they surely get compensated well for it though.

Heck,  even my brother's kid after talking to him recently gets paid as basically a private about 3000 per month, not a bad gig for a 23 year old not working an 8-5 daily grind job which is over 16 bucks per hour for a 40 hour work week and he does not work a full 40 hours per week for the military usually.  He wants to become a paramedic and with the military going to pay for his college tuition afterwards if he decides to go, as well as that type of training in the military, he says he can still work part time in the military while also being a paramedic part time per week as well.  He says he might become a lifer in the military after seeing how tired and dusty/dirty his dad (my older brother) works in a machine shop full of metal sheathing, etc., not wanting to live that way.

Being honest and not trying to insult you.  My guess is,  you don't have a clue as to what it's like serving.  40 hour work week?   I don't think so.  Unless the person you're speaking of is in school and then, that's still debatable.

$16.00 an hour to put your life on the line?   I'll have to think about that one.

I knew I would get some slack for my post, but is not a bad way to make a living if you are willing to move as the military seems fit, plus you like running your keester off, and yes, along with the chance of being killed serving your country.

Am thinking the military nowadays pays overall very well as compared to most of us in the 50's and older.

Being as polite as I know how, it's not a way to make a living, it's a way of life.
Some things in life are worth sacrificing for, those who have served know and understand, few of those who haven't won't/don't and owe those who have more than they'll ever understand.

Not that those who have served expect more than what they got.   Not that they or I expect anything in return.   As the song says, all gave some, some gave all.   My deepest respect to those who willing signed a blank check knowing, it might get cashed.

Front line combat soldier could be paid $8000.00 an hour and It's STILL not enough. When we went in we signed a contract and MORE Importantly took an Oath-the price we signed up for-our life. Did NOT go into the Military to get rich or famous. Went in to Serve my COUNTRY. The creed all of us Served by-DUTY HONOR COUNTRY. Death before Dishonor ain't just a quaint saying. Guys had my back and I had theirs. Took my Oath at 19 and I'm staring 72  in the eyeballs and my OATH has NOT been canceled recalled nor ended. I AM Still bound by that Oath. Freedom has a taste the protected will NEVER know. RIDE SAFE. Find a Military person and Thank them for YOUR freedom.
