Louisiana shows 1 in 300... I've hit 3 (two with a truck, 1 with a bike). Am I covering for 900??

I had a hunch Wisconsin would be way up there. Back in the early 2000s I got up to WI several times and saw more dead dear on the road of any state I had been in.

I'm in Illinois. Had 5 separate deer incidents in the last twenty years. I hit two of them, three of them hit me, one while riding my motorcycle. He hit me in the left side as I was riding about 60 mph. It totaled my bike and messed me up even with my helmet, I had a pretty severe concussion and everything was scrambled for a few days. impacted my left shoulder and hurt my back. However, I don't remember much about the accident. So......I would disagree with their findings!

appears WV and PA are right at the top.
Yah, IL seems should be closer to WI and IA but it appears not to be the case for some reason.
knock on wood, some 30 years driving in WI and only winged one small deer just grazing it no damage done, but have had several dozen close calls over the years.
One deer last year bounced off my wife's SUV going to work early morning. She called the cops getting a police report, heard a thud but was too dark to see any damage. When light out, I inspected and only saw a bad scratch and very, very minor indentation on rear passenger wheel well area, must have bounced off and just grazed the SUV. I just used touch up paint myself good enough for the 4 inch scratch and left the very minor dent alone since really not noticeable unless at an angle very small - got lucky.
I did not know this, but when calling around for insurance quotes, it listed the police report as a deer collision on her driving record. So, I called up police to get the DMV report of a deer collision wiped off her driving record since turns up a red flag to potential insurance companies as a deer collision/comprehensiv claim. I guess in future we will ONLY report a deer collision if we know we need repairs vs. just a scratch basically, but like said, was too dark to really tell if any damage or not.

VA is 1 in 94. I guess if I only ride 93 times a year, I'm good. What has caused me some concern is stopping for gas (or something) in a small group, and having the guy behind me ask if I saw that big buck on the edge of the road. And I didn't. I've seen plenty, but apparently I've ridden by some pretty close and had no clue. I suppose if you don't hit one, ignorance is bliss.

Looks like I should spend riding season in Hawaii and hunting season in Montana. But I'll probably stick with an Indiana home base. I like seeing deer when I ride and hearing distant motorcycles from my tree-stand or blind.
The wife has hit two deer in the past three years on her way to work (in her car), both times within 2 miles of home. I've been hit by two in my truck, both times after a last minute decision not to ride to work that morning.
I do wonder if these figures are for deer only (whitetail, blacktail and mule deer) or if they include prairie goats, moose and elk also?

Its got to include other animals besides deer. In Alaska there are very few deer where vehicles are. But there are plenty of moose.

I gave my daughter a excuse for school for a extra day of hunting saying she stayed home because of Cervid Myopia. (didnt see any deer)

We returned home after a movie last Friday, happy to have not encountered a deer on the way. It's just the right time in the evening. Sue shouted DEER as we were going down the driveway. Here was a large doe standing a few feet from the driveway. I usually spot the creatures long before Sue, but not in this case. We have had four encounters in the 27 years that we have lived out in the country, well below the one in eighty chance suggested for Minnesota...

Yep. Going through I think SD right at dark a few years ago. We were seeing prairie goats everywhere, then it got dark and though you couldn't see them, you knew they were still there.

I'm in the #1 deer kill state of WV. In 49 years of driving, I have killed 10, 3 with pick ups and 7 with cars. 1 close call on the Valkyrie.

God Three Valks yet got me beat for chances an kills i got a hot on the bike no damage , 8 hits 4 kill. The last kill was my 2014 outback an cost was $7200. Don't anybody hunt them critters over there? Nice post Wiskey. Hey, thinking back I remember back a few year I was in Mont. And no place to stay so I told the wife we'll go down to Glendive but in the next 60m I was so stressed out after seeing 60 To 61 deer an antelope crossing the road that I couldn't handle it an pulled over on tj side of the road and jut slept in the explorer. I think the time was just after 10 w hen we left the town we were at.
