Every morning I get up at home I make coffee. If I eat out in the A M I order coffee. Home or away I use Honey in my coffee and have been for a LOT of years. While I was still driving I met an ol boy from I Believe Alabama. He used syrup in his coffee-you know-waffle syrup. Never gave it a second thought til today. I switched to Pure Maple syrup last year sometime cuz I was NOT liking what I was reading on the ingredients label of the corn syrup imitations. This morning I put some of that Pure Maple syrup in my coffee. So from now on when I have that fresh cupa joe in front of me 2 choices present themselves stead of one!  :2funny:Well-thigs COULD be worse-they could outlaw coffee!  Lips Sealed Cry In case yer wundein-boil my water in a pot on the stove-well Just Before a boil-and pour that HOT water thru the grounds that are contained in a bronze filter-NOT paper. Threw out the paper filters just before I retired. My coffee choice is what Aldis sells in the red can. My electric pot just keeps my coffee hot-not brewing from the percolator. Obviously I have WAY too much time on my hands!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

Good luck on your request.  cooldude I've always used half & half until the last few years switching to Hazelnut creamer. Never thought about honey or syrup. On a side note, how much coffee do you drink ? For me it's between 12-24 cups a day. As in 2 pots. Lots of people get freaked out about that. But I've been doing that many years.

Concentrated liquid sucralose for me (The sweet part of Splenda, but I get it concentrated in liquid form, just takes a few drops) and sugar free hazelnut creamer. (Okay, so that's TWO things we agree on now Mr. Head! Wink )

I used have a little coffee with my sugar but the diabetes thing kicked me of that habit and made me switch to the sucralose instead.

Real maple syrup contains certain antioxidants and minerals like Zinc,  Magnesium,  etc that are beneficial to you, making it a good choice as a sweetener.... and it tastes great to boot. Of course it still has a high sugar content so moderation is key,  however it's nowhere near as bad as refined sugar products. We've been using organic pure maple sugar in our coffee and tea for years.

Meathead.... 24 cups a day???  Not sure I'd want you behind me in rush hour traffic  Wink

No diabetes for me anymore, thanks to my surgery, but the surgery also makes sugars hard for me to handle, so it's a tradeoff... But at least I'm not diabetic anymore! Smiley

I have a 12 cup maker that will fill the cup I use 4 times. There is about half a cup leftover that has all the grounds and fines that come thru the bronze filter. I use about a teaspoon full of honey or syrup only in my first 2 cups. Drink the last 2 black. Also whole milk in the first 2 cups. AND I Only brew one pot a day now. When I was in the Navy and driving truck coffee was ALWAY available. On the truck I carried 2 two quart thermos bottles I filled 3 or 4 times a day. Tween nicotine and caffeine-well I quit the nicotine and cut back on the caffeine.  2funny Gimmee couple eggs fried in bacon or sausage grease along with the bacon and/or sausage some 12 grain bread toasted and buttered-BUTTER NOT margarine-some raw onions or raw white mushrooms and a cup hot fresh coffee-I'm good fer 3-400 miles in the saddle!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Very rarely drink coffee but when I do it's raw cane sugar or honey after the coffee is prepped in a basic French Press. Only decaf for me anything else is like drinking liquid amphetamine (I imagine). Same with full test Coca-Cola. Ugh.

Meathead, I wasn't too far off your consumption of coffee until I reached about age 62. I could sit and watch the 11:00pm news with a cup of hi-test, go to bed and sleep like a baby. Suddenly in my early 60's, almost overnight it seemed, that didn't work for me. I started to cut back in the late evening, had to cut back even more I found out. Now, for the last dozen years I've been drinking about a half a mug in the morning with some half 'n half creamer, the coffee is mixed half regular and half decaf. Then about 4:00pm I'll have some decaf and that's it for the day. I still sleep like a baby, thank goodness I don't have to get up during the night although I often do wake up. I almost always can go right back to sleep, must be the clean living. Yeah.....that's it!   Wink

If you like honey try Sorghum or molasses.
I do not do coffee so I have no idea what might be best.
But I mainline all 3 above instead of candy or sweets.
All are rich in good things for you.

Please post info on your Bronze filter!!!!  I would love to find one that will work in my percolator.

Side note... my ALL stainless percolator tastes WAY better than any plastic drip pot.   cooldude

Gonna have to try the maple trick one day.  I typically use cane sugar, honey, or just drink it black.

The bronze filter is all I will use with a drip coffee maker, so much easier to clean and if you make a few pots of coffee during the day its faster also. They usually come with the Krups or Cusinart and that is usually the brand of coffee makers I use. Its nice sometimes to be able to put all the parts in the dishwasher to keep it clean.

Switched from cane sugar to honey awhile ago and have since grown to really like it. If you use honey try to buy it from a local source the government got involved and the good stuff like the pollen in honey is taken out of the store variety and most comes from overseas. I go right to the bee farm and get mine.

I also use pure maple syrup on occasion but lately I am trying to have it with only half and half. I like the Vanilla nut creme coffee and have to order it on line from a place in Michigan. I usually have about a mug and a half in the morning and a mug in the afternoon and one after dinner.

John I thought I was the only one that could have one before bed and sleep well.

Been using a bronze filter for 20+ years.

I put my finger though one side and separated the metal from the plastic rim and thought "opps, better get a new one"

That was 10 years ago.

Light cream, no sweetener.

Ain't got none of that Maple flavored Carmel colored corn syrup in the house. Terrible stuff.

What a refreshing non-political post. Smiley

I was at my highest point drinking coffee at work.  I had my own coffee maker in my office.

I went on vacation one year to go bow hunting in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was cold so we had a number of cups of high octane coffee. We were at 6,000 feet altitude, when I got this fluttery feeling.  Scared the hell out of me.  It was extra heart beats due to too much caffeine.

Since then I learned to live with much less coffee. One cup/ day which gives me a little boost which is needed at my age.  I add some cream but no sugar. I do take Excedrin on a regular basis to help dull arthritis so that's additional caffeine.

Occasionally I will take a little caffeine in the form of Excedrin so I can get to sleep. Works just the opposite of what caffeine normally does.

I can only drink one cup, with half-a-squirt of honey from our local bee farm. None, ever, of ANYTHING, with artificial sweetener of ANY kind. That stuff is BAD!!!. Just a few molecules away from rat poison.
Messes with the heart and  brain.
Do your research.
Nothing in your coffee is better than ANYTHING artificial.

When the Pilot truck stops changed up their coffee bars they included besides many different flavors of coffee many different selections of ARTFICIAL flavors and sweeteners. Too which I became attached too rather quickly. BADBAD mistake. Used this crap about 8 or 9 months put on weight wasn't sleeping right-away or home-and had some digestive problems I never had before. When I quit using those ARTIFICIAL flavored sweeteners the turn around for my body was rather quick and I started sleeping better and my digestive problems went away rather quickly to boot. I also quit using white sugar in my coffee when I couldn't find honey. When I'm at my brothers place the Only water he uses to make the coffee is filtered. Gotta git him a bronze filter though! RIDE SAFE.

I agree.  If I am going to drink coffee, I drink coffee.  Black.   If I want milk, drink milk.  Sugar, eat a candy bar.  Started drinking coffee on forest fires many years ago.  Good cup of high test would help keep one going without sleep.  Then started drinking it while doing normal work, mostly first thing in the morning. Had a 22oz mug, filled it once.  Now, in retired mode, just couple of coups in the morning.  Of course they are big cups.   angel angel

For coffee; sugar, milk flavorings , honey, syrup etc. they are all CONTAMINANTS.  "If you don't like coffee black well, you just don't like coffee"  That's what my dad said when we were old enough to start drinking the stuff.  Even in Italy.  Espresso black no sugar.  YMMV

O2S gave me a bronze filter that did not fit my pot. I did not think about modifying it.
Black coffee. Any thing else makes it more toxic than it already is. I looked up the ingredients of those creamers , crazy2 crazy2 and coffee mate is latex paint.  2funny 2funny We started drinking coffee when we were about six or eight years old. Mom would use sodium saccharin for sweetener. I was milk and sugar and then weaned myself from it. I prefer coffee black. If I have to put in addatives , I need different coffee.

Started drinking coffee when they started giving it away at work for a while.  Prior to that I had a Dr. Pepper every morning for my caffeine.  I use honey for the sweetener also.  Was told it was good for the joints.
