Alabama Valkyrie Riders - How about a meet and greet?  We are planning on having lunch (or breakfast) at the Cracker Barrel, on Fieldstown Road Exit (Exit 271) on Interstate 65 about 9 miles north of Birmingham on Saturday, 10/29/16 @ 11:00 am.  This should allow us to eat before the crowds.  Address is 901 Fieldstown Road, Gardendale, Alabama, 35071.  Alabama is off that day, and Auburn plays Ole Miss @ 2:30 pm.  Please RSVP this thread if you are interested.  We would like to revive the old Cheaha Ride for a later date or agree to hold some ride later this Fall.  So far, Leon Strickland and Mark Thomas are attending.  Hope for a good turnout.  Thanks all, and hope to see you there and finally can put a face with your name/handle.

I am tentatively putting this ride on my calendar too.  I'm also glad there are others that want to ride Cheaha again.

If Judy (my wife) goes, we will probably stay the night on Cheaha. Then back down south the next day.

Another thing I want to do is make it to the Barbers museum.

I'm certainly interested.  However I don't know if I can make it on that date.  I will let you know as soon as I am sure.   I assume the wife is welcomed (She's the one with the $$).

You bet, would be glad to have her and meet her too. All with an interest are welcome. Not sure what route the old rides were or were we met.  We will discuss this, and look at the maps and plan the ride, and of course the date/time/lunch, etc.  I know that Leon and DDT (Bruce) probably remember.  Looking forward to seeing all of you there.

I honestly have no idea at all where I'll be or what I'll be doing on that date... As you might expect, that date was predictably blank on my calendar, so... I added this event. Who knows...

I fell into riding with the AL bunch on a spur of the moment whim... back in '99. Yep, I just showed up unannounced at one of their local rides, then rode with a couple of them the next day up to Cheaha (my first time up there). That's where Tim RedValk shared his idea of starting an annual event ride to that place, and the rest is history... In a round about way, that weekend is largely responsible for subsequent events that lead to my living in Wetumpka for seven years!

Sounds like this get-together might be fun, have potential for great things, and... We'll just have to see. As always, it's jis corrdin'...

Excellent, looks like we will have a great group if all can make it.  If any of you remember
the old ride route and where you stopped and had lunch that would be fantastic, and where
did you meet?  We are meeting to determine if there is enough interest to revive that ride, heard good things about it over the years.  Hope to also set the date/time and location and ride info.
Thanks all for your responses.  I'll post on the FB sites as well.

Looks like we may have 4 or 5 there for the meeting and breakfast/lunch.  That will be great. For those that cannot attend, we will be picking a date/time for the Cheaha Ride and the place to meet for the start and perhaps a lunch break somewhere.  Have always heard good things about this ride that used to be held annually in the past.  Perhaps we can revive it and it will grow in size.  Will give it a try at least.  We will be announcing the info here and on VRCC FB site after the meeting.  Thanks all.  CaribouHunter (Mark)

Great gang.  Looks like we will have several there. I'm looking forward to it. All who have info on the past rides please bring to share, including route, fuel stop, lunch stop, etc.  Also, will need to have some tentative dates to discuss, and go ahead and make a decision on the date/time/place to meet.  Who ever can make it for this first one will get a free Cheaha Valkyrie Ride T-Shirt.  Hopefully we can do this every year.  Thanks all.  CaribouHunter

Us Florida riders had a lot of fun in the great state of Alabama.  Sure was good putting some more faces to names/handles.

I guess it was around a 500 mile day.  Coming home through the Talladega Forrest was really cool.

There was one cardiac moment though.  Our last stop was in Florala.  I was trying to do too many things at once.  Pumping gas, talking on the phone with Judy, and trying to put my credit card and wallet away.  So I think I put the wallet on the back seat, finished fueling, hung up the phone and drive off.

I didn't notice until Sunday morning when I went to change to clean Levi's for church.  Hey! Where's my wallet?  I had to wait until 11 for the manager of the gas station to show up.  Called at 11 and sure enough, someone turned in my wallet and didn't even take any of the cash.  Had another nice ride Sunday morning to get my wallet back.

What an adventure!
