Turn signal "on" reminder...

Several people have the little buzzing thing in their seat.

If the turn signal still stays on they are enjoyimg it too much.   LOL.

It is called a 'Blinker Buddy'.

Strider has one I've been told and he still leaves his on.........

I bought two piezo buzzers, wired them to my turn sig. behind my headlight now they blink, they buzz
everytime the blinkers cycle.

I also bought just one of these from Radio Shack for about $3. I tied it to the headlight blinker light so I just needed the one.

At night no problem.  Most of the time in the day light, lots of problems.

I imagine you know about the cancel device (I think Kissan makes it?) you just excahnge it for the stock device. You can set it to turn off after a certain number of blinkx (I think mine is set for 20 or 30) and it has a wire to hook up to a brake wire- so if you are on your brake at a stopp it stays on- Handy except it turning off when you want it on.
You still have to cancel your signal mechanicaly  to signal the next time too- if you forget, no signal will come on.
I never found it a problem once I figured that out now
Buzzer seems better- but maybe more hassle to install

I have several of those buzzers from Radio Shack. Think I'll give that a try first.

I mounted the buzzer under the triple tree with silicone so they can be heard, I like them, its a good reminder.

Tundra, I understand. I keep telling myself that I just need to pay more attention. It seems so simple. But, every now and then I embarrass myself. Somewhere during the turn, maybe I'm focusing on changing gears, watching out for a potential dangerous situation, or whatever... I'm just not sure.

If you canot remember,to turn them off ,don't use them. stick your arm out,left turn, up right turn, down stop..wave both arms ,when you want attention........LOL..my 2 cents......

I was riding behind a fellow (did not know him) who failed to turn off his right blinker. He was approaching an intersection and a car pulled in front of him. He hit it and went down. Lucky for him he was not going to fast and damage was minor. I stuck around to be a witness and help the guy with his bike, I was amazed the car got a ticket for failure to yield right of way. Didn't make sense to me.

The Kissan may cause static in your stereo system, if you have one.  It did on mine.  The buzzers will draw stares from pedestrians at street corners yet may not be loud enough at highway speeds.  I finally got a blinker buddy and it works well and is discrete.

I made it, and ran it for years, until turning the signal off became second nature.  Now, every lane change, or turn I make, weather or not I had the signal on, I push to cancel.

Chet's plan is easy, cheap, and works, like mst everything else he has developed

+1 On Chet's signal buzzer. It only takes a few minutes to complete and the buzz is so annoying that you will NEVER forget to turn your signal off! BTW I did the mod where when you press on the brake the buzzing stops.

1st gear - go, 2nd gear - more go , turn signal off, 3rd gear--- etc...
That has been my pattern since I started riding a lot of years ago. I rarely forget !!!

I never had a problem remembering it until I got my 84 Magna.  They self cancel based on the lean angle sensor and the speed.
If the signal is used for a lane change, after a few seconds it will cancel due to the forward speed sensor.  When used for a turn, it will cancel as soon as the bike completes the roll-out from the turn. 
If Honda had this technology in 84, why did they drop it in later years?  Mine have never given me a problem and work perfectly every time.

I guess I'm kinda slow this morning (or always), but can you explain how a back up light can be used for turn signals?  I'm guessing that in addition to the light bulb you need an electrical/mechanical do dad to make the noise, so where would it be mounted, and how would it be wired in?

Thats not funny.    I (we) use hand signals 90% of the time, except at night. Esp when group riding and on the hiway.

Joop, I've got a question.  Can the wiring harness be unplugged from the rear wheel sensor when we remove the final drive for maintenance or would the sensor need to be removed?

I use arm signals all the time, but there are times in higher speed traffic with people moving around, you need to have the signal on constantly for a bit so the guy hauling ass up from behind (or oncoming) sees it too.  In sunlight the OE bulbs in the IS fairing can be nearly invisible, and I forget too when in traffic and I'm busy with watching many moving objects, signs, etc.  In groups, we have a signal, the old hand out, clenched and extended fingers simulating a signal.  Alone, it can get embarrasing, from time to time.  I'm not ready for a buzzer yet, but.....

What were we talking about?   Aging is great.

Hello Marty

The sensor is mounted on an aluminum plate with a terminal block.
You can unscrew the sensor cable from the terminal block.
No problem when removing the wheel.

it's either a 7 or 9 inch led strip from harbor freight (cheap), used diodes to prevent back feed from left to right signal and vice versa.  or ya could just use 2 smaller ones. one each for left and right and not deal with the diodes

Ken, that's a great idea, and I hate to sound really stupid, but how did you hook those into your turn signals ?
