Ridin in the rain with Oss

Well the hurricane is out to sea but the front decided to become stationary

Actually, it started when Baldo arrived and stopped finally while we were eating at BigW's so I cant really say it was his fault, being from the place near where the Red Sox and Patriots play.
 

It was just a light drizzle til we hit 35 then it was more and by the time we hit 7  lordy it was comin down.  We stopped at a Dunkin Donuts somewhere so Bob and Dan could finally (why bother) put on their rain gear

I was snug as a bug in a rug as were Meathead and Brenda and Hook. We just rode at or 5 below the posted limits until safely at the Bull's Bridge, went thru stopped took pics

admired the scenery as the rain momentarily ceased and said goodbye to Hook who rode home

The rest of us took 7 south to 55 to 22 south and as we hit BigWs the rain stopped and serious eating commenced, stories (mine were not lies lol) were told and comaraderie was enjoyed.

After a leisurely lunch and conversation Baldo headed home with the rain and Dan, Rob&Brenda and myself rode south on 22 leaving Dan at the route 6 split  (you can take 6 all the way to Yellowstone according to Dan and I believe him as he does wander around)

We took 7 bridges road to Hardscrabble road and even though the road was slicker than dog snot with wet leaves and mud Rob said he was game for Briarcliff Rd which turns into Chappaqua Rd and its 5mph switchbacks.  Frankly the colors are now awesome and even this NYer had to agree it was beautful riding

Rob & Brenda have now gone back to the Comfort Inn and perhaps we shall see them for dinner, or not depending on the fates.

It was a real pleasure to meet them, Jim, BigRig, Baldo, Hook, Harry C and see Mark, Stan, Dan, Xman, Gman and Cheryl and family, Bull and his wife

I hope I didnt miss anyone.   Its been great.



Next year I may do this again if there is interest.

Evan, Brenda and I can't thank you enough for your hospitality and putting this event together.  Every mile was beautiful, but those last 20 you just took us on might have been the best. It was really good riding with all of my new Northeastern buddies. Thank you all for showing us a great time. I probably won't add in my ride report till we get home in a few days. But Brenda and I just want to say what a pleasure it's been. Also want to throw out a special shout out to G-man and Cheryl for giving us a ride to dinner. Had a blast being able to pour back a few with my buddy Hook.

Oss, just pulled in.   The rain stopped about 10 miles north of where we split up and stayed away till about 20 miles from home.  Then it poured

Not a problem, dry and sitting in my chair watching Tom Brady and the Patriots on the DVR.

Thanks for hosting this weekend, the weather could have been better, but the riding and company could not.

Well, the weather liars said that the rain was going to stop around 11, so I waited but it never let up. Still coming down fairly good, so decided to take off and make the best of it. Put on the rain gear, bagged up the phone so it wouldn't get wet and headed off. Was a few miles down the HH Parkway when the phone screen went blank. I knew generally where I was headed, but with the rain and spray from the road, it was a tad difficult to see. Waze provides a nice security blanket for times such as these.
I found one of the only overpasses that was safe to stop under and fiddled with the phone. Seems that somehow, through some combination of button presses, it had gone into safe mode and was downloading - also said not to turn off the target (phone). Deciding that I was on my own with no condomized security blanket, I pulled back into traffic and made it down the HH bridge. Hit reserve and knew I needed to get gas in Fort Lee on the Jersey side. Got on the GW bridge and traffic was pretty slow (go figure). I wasn't unhappy as it gave me a chance to catch my breath, although the winds blowing down the river were gusting fairly well. Missed the turn in Fort Lee (reference security blanket above) and headed down the NJTP. Stopped at the first service plaza and gassed up. Never did figure out what was wrong with the phone, but I knew my way home from here. It was a wet, windy and sloppy ride for the first 60 miles. Finally the rain subsided and I used every opportunity to try to warm my soaked gloves on the valve covers. Quite a feat drying the right hand as the left hand is controlling throttle and steering at 65.....
Once I saw that the skies were starting to lighten up a bit, I pulled over and donned my heated gloves. Ahhhhhh, warm and toasty hands for the rest of the way home.
The sun finally appeared about 20 miles from home and I needed the sunglasses now. Made it home safe and with no incidents... The phone is working ......weird. And power was out here for a while.
Totally enjoyed the weekend with everyone. Glad to make new friends!!

Thanks for the pictures and write up.  Sounds like a really good time.  One of these days I will give up the classroom and go on more of these rides.  Every year I think "this is it" but keep going.  It's nice to be needed I guess.

Thanks for all you did to make this event possible Oss.  Being a Chapter Director for GWRRA Chapter K I know how difficult and time consuming it is to plan events like this.  Ann and I had a great time and we enjoyed meeting everyone.  Hope to be able to do more rides with you guys.

Well after that fantastic BBQ, we went our separate ways. My intention was to try to make my way home, but that damn rain just wouldn't give up! Torrential downpours that lasted until well past 10 PM. Constant 35 mph winds, with gusts above 50.

I elected to head north to visit some friends in Greenfield, Ma, 2 1/2 hrs away. My hope was to kill some time to allow the rain to split (this didn't work out as I had hoped) and make it a long day but I'd be back home.

Plan B: After visiting..

--- Got a room

--- Went to the movies, saw Deepwater Horizon. Excellent...

--- Big ass triple bacon burger at Applebees

--- Slipped into a burger and beer induced coma until 8 am.

Took my time getting home. I did some more visiting with folks I never get a chance to see, and ended up rolling in around 9PM.

Oh yeah. I shared some takeout BBQ that I had gotten at that place in NY....fantastic! Thank you Big W!

You too, Oss...I had a blast. Next year I'll try to be on time!
