Man, that's very sad. Having heard stories of riders crossing the center line frequently and stories like this. I'm not sure if I ever want to ride that road.

Sure hate hearing that kind of news. Prayers for his family and all involved.
We rode it on friday afternoon and honestly, I didnt enjoy it one bit. Too much time paying attention to oncoming traffic of which there was way too much. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the smoothest rider in the twisties, but i have a hard time getting a rythym on that road, especially while riding 2 up and pulling a trailer, and having to deal with all the traffic.

Sad, very sad, thankfully one survived.

Precisely why I don't participate in some rides.

You can't control how close the person behind you is riding.   I've seen this happen before but with less devastating results.    Most of us have probably ridden the Dragon's Tail.    It's a challenging and dangerous piece of asphalt.   Yeah, I enjoyed it also.   The two things that aren't under a rider's control is the folks coming from the opposite direction and how close the rider behind you rides.

One never knows when it's going to happen, all one can do is ride within your own capability and hope others do the same.    It's always better to be a witness to an accident than a participant.

Our local group came through around 11:30 on the way home from The Fall Color Ride and made a stop at the lake . We crossed The Foothills Parkway and stopped in Walland to hang out at The Bridge To Nowhere. While we was there we saw all the first response go screamin' by not knowing we had rode right by this accident just like the so many more had done  Sad

These guys knew each other I have a pic of the bikes on my Facebook page they had took during the ride .

I've been to the dragon several times and have enjoyed each.  It's a great road.

Only done week days, so my visits have been less populated than weekend days, with my having the ride almost to myself.

I'd suggest anyone that wants to ride it, to make plans for a week day.

One of the best things about going there, is going there.

Some of the best riding in the country.

The dragon has gained to much publicity over the years. Their are numerous amounts of roads all along the mountain range of TN,NC,VA that are so much better and less populated.

NC 80 - Devils Whip
TN 209 - The Rattler
TN 421 - The Snake
TN 66 - AKA " The Beast"
VA16 - Back of the Dragon
NC261 (Roan Mountain Rd)

And my new personal favorite since I moved to Tennessee is TN route 32, Also called Waterville Rd.

I road this shortly after The Vols lost to Bama and decided to give it the title of Waterhead road in recognition of all the Bama fans.

Rode the  Dragon twice in 3 years. Once on a naked 1981 gl1100, solo.

Second on my Valkyrie with my sweetie. Had a great time both occasions. Been there, done that. Had

 enough. cooldude

Both times over the 4 the of July holiday. Hardly any traffic.

After getting home, I went online to see my pictures.

Much to my horror were photos of these guys on bicycles! Had they been on the same stretch of road that

I was on, I would have killed us all! Shocked

No more, thank you. Got some great memories. cooldude

Ride safe, y'all...

On Saturday, Oct 15, the lifeflight helicopter was on the Cherohala Skyway at an overlook and down the road we passed a wrecked 1100 wing.  I haven't been able to find any info on this.  I was just wondering how the rider made out, anybody know anything?

Just goes to show that NO MATTER how many miles you've ridden together YOU HAVE to leave a safe space between riders cause $hit happens quickly.
