There were some funny jokes by each and there were some rude comments by each. But by far the funniest moment for me was Guiliani's reaction to Clinton's joke about him. Priceless  2funny

Didn't see this event but based on the expression on the lady in the foreground, the joke must not have been all that funny.

Norah O'Donnel. She has had my attention for years.  cooldude She used to be on MSNBC, now on CBS.
Edit, I just realized you were talking about Maria Bartomalo (sp.) Used to be on CNBC, I think she's on Fox Business News now. (I think Norah is hotter)

It was pretty good. I'm paraphrasing here, but it went something like this. She mentioned all the esteemed Mayors, Governors, etc. Then she said and also we have Rudy Guliani here. It's ironic, he got his start prosecuting rich guys not paying their taxes. Now he is on Fox News saying they are genius.

Big difference between rich guys not paying their taxes and rich guys taking advantage of the dumb tax laws as they're written. If they do it legally, they are a genius.....or their acctg. firm is. I've done it myself on a much lower level since I'm not a gazillionaire, as a result there's been 2-3 times over the years where I've had a carryover/loss that caused me to not pay any taxes for the next couple years following. I retired from the Florida Dept. of Revenue where i worked for 30 years, first as an auditor then on up into various levels of admin. on a local level, you couldn't have paid me enough to transfer to the office in the capitol Tallahassee.

On a local level, I knew who these people were and what their assets were, I also knew how they protected them from the government. Not paying is one thing and we showed no mercy in those cases. However, if the various laws that applied to individual situations were applied and resulted in no taxes having been paid....I had no problem with it. But believe me, it was watched very closely. Florida doesn't have a personal income tax but they do have corporate income taxes, among other things. The corp. tax closely follows the Fed. corp. tax, but not completely. That's where a few would get tripped up from time to time. An honest mistake/misunderstanding was often given a break on penalty and interest. If it was proven that it was a blatant disregard....different story. You paid the piper. Over the years I garnered a good rep with some of the larger CPA outfits in the area. Most, when told who the investigator was, often told their clients to pay up and shut up. They knew from past experience that when I brought something to them, very seldom was it disputable. What other auditors/investigators didn't do that I did....I usually would go over what can be done in the future to prevent this from happening again, thereby saving them money...often big money. I never showed them how to "beat" the system, just how to comply in a manner that was acceptable. I made a lot of friends over the years, and a few not so friendly. You can guess which category the latter fell into.  Wink

John, it was just a joke. What made it good was the Ex Mayors reaction. At least I found it amusing. (Probably in the minority again)  Smiley

I guess it's one of those where you had to be there.

The difference I see is he prosecuted those who did not pay taxes illegally.
Not those who use the tax codes to reduce or eliminate the tax burden legally.

I assure you, I pay as little tax as I can legally get by with.   I'll bet you do to.   coolsmiley

There were many jokes by Trump I thought hillarious. He also kind of went a bit beyond what was appropriate for the venue and forum at times.

One of the funniest ones was (paraphrased) his complaint that Mrs. Obama once gave a very good speech and everyone praised it and thought it very good. His wife gave the exact same speech and she was ridiculed. (This was the speech at the Rep. Convention)
Laughed my ass off at that one.

The "pardon" one was outstanding.

(Hilary bumps him, she says "pardon me" and Trumps says "We'll talk later"

I have to agree, I was going through the channels and came across the event just a few minutes before Trump was introduced to speak.

I had quite a few laughs from both DT and HC but you're right there was a little over the stuff for the event on both sides. This was not the venue to get real serious.

It would have been nice to see them shake hands after the closing for the sake of showing real support for the cause and a slight "truce" for the evening.

OK, it just didn't come across that way to me but I understand. Actually, I didn't watch the thing, didn't even know about it but probably wouldn't have watched it anyway. I never watched any of the debates either....pres. or VP's. I'm none the worse for it.....I guess.  Wink
