Does anybody know if you can put interstate style hinges on champion bags? Have tried contacting champion with no luck regarding alternative hinges. Lids hit trunk when opened. Bags installed on brothers vtx

It's not just hinges , it's also cables attached to moldings with screws inside the I/s lid so the it stays hanging on the side when open. Also rubber pieces on the lid also prevent scratching the side of the bags

I did just what you are talking about...  When I purchased my IS Trunk, the seller wanted my hinges (from the Champion bags), in exchange for his 'hooks' (so my bag lids could be removed, in order to clear the new trunk.  My hinges replaced his hooks, and he now can open his bags, and the hinge works like it should).

The mounting holes are the same, and the swap takes just a few minutes.  I did not bother with the retaining cables, as I saw no need for my use.

I forget if it was this forum, or the HSAT forum, where a member cut the bottom of the lid hinge so it would hook on the bag side hinge.

Just a Dremel cut off wheel.

But if the mounting holes are in the same place, then buy the IS hinges.

As for the cables. PUT them on. $5 worth of cabling will save you on buying a $100 lid down the road one day. Either you'll leave it behind somewhere, or forget to latch it, and it will fly off down the road. Been there and paid for it, on my old GL1100.

black dog thanks for the confirmation that they fit. I looked at them next to my interstate bags and it looked similar but wasn't sure. as of now we have his trunk shimmed up and the bags shimmed out so you can tweak the lids past the trunk to open the bags but needed a better solution before they break

I'll second the 'put the cables on' suggestion. The cable saved my bacon more than once. One time I rode almost 50 miles with the lid dangling alongside the bag. My mistake, I didn't closed the lid, forgot about it when I got my things out, but it shows how easy it is to forget that you have to put the lid back on.

Lid back on and latched.

My GL1100 was old, and there was no weather seal around it any longer, and the lid was loose, and the latch opened up. Lost it. Used a picture hanger kit to make cables and loops to hold the new lid on the bag.
