Wonder if the Trump-Pence sign on the lawn and the american flag scared them off?

Saw Gman posted on FB that he only had one ring at the door

Anyone else ?

Oss,  a Hillary sign would have scared them off more so?

Our town decided on trickertreaters saturday from 2:30-5:30, have over 120 kids and from what I heard since our dumb town was 2 days early,  had some out of town kids from other small towns as well, thus the extra 30-40 kids showing up on saturday afternoon in upper 60s and sunny, the other small towns nearby of course is tonight as it should be.

That must be it. No Trump or Clinton signs or US flag on my lawn, and I gave candy to 60-80 kids.

AMERICAN Flag on the front of my house bright red U S of A shirt on and I had trick or treaters. Didn't even scare the three year old girl that showed up!  Roll Eyes Scared a couple of adults when I mentioned the hildabeast.  tickedoff  Here if your front porch light is on means you welcome the kids and have candy to pass out. Porch light out=no candy. I ran out of near $20.00 worth of tooth decay just before 7 P M local!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

We had hundreds...

Some of the less nice neighborhoods around us literally bus 'em into ours though.

Took the 5 year olds out into the neighborhood, we all had a good time, they got a LOT of candy, and I'm teaching 'em about government by taking half of their candy... Wink

Our little village  has 2 hours of trick-or-treat on Halloween day while most of the surrounding areas  have the  muchkins out on Sunday. During a Packers game no less. Absolute sacrilege  around here so we seem to get every kid that can get someone to get them to our little slice of the banana Republic . $75 of candy and I almost ran out in the two hours. I only handed out one rubber dog turd to one impolite little future drain on the society assets  which is an improvement over the 3 I usually hand out. No political  signs in my yard this year and that  probably threw the neighborhood kids off.

Our seniors street has the reputation of binge stingy. Plus if no porch light, no candy.
I saw no trick or treaters.  Suits me.

2 of the best things about living out in the country.

1. Being able to take a leak in your yard.
2. No trick or treaters.

I live in the country on a paved road. Wasn'the when I bought but was the following year. I knew that was going to happen so that's why I bought,  and cheap.

My thing is when a 15 yr old shows up and says the famous request. Aren't you a little old for this Spanky?!!

I agree, what is the deal with 15+ year olds asking for candy?  I had a freshman at our school show up and I asked her if she was a tad bit too old to get candy.  She said never too old to go trickertreating?

Also,  that one 4-5 year old that grabbed a handful of candy bars (guessing 5) and when I told him to put them back, ONLY 1, with his father nearby,  just walked off and dad never did nor said much to his little one at all.  That is when I would like to hand out that fake turd to the father asking him if he wanted some candy as well.

75 dollars of candy - WOW, in ONLY 2 hours as well.  What did you give to them a whole sized candy bar?   I like the rubber dog turd idea will have to remember that next year and give one to the little turd who grabbed a handful of mini candy bars.  I bought my 8 bags of mini candy bars luckily on sale for 2 bucks per bag and almost ran out in 3 hours.

I went to the next local town last night to run errands and the police dept. instead of handing out tickets for speeders on the main hwy. they patrol literally all the time since 35 mph speed limit on major hwy. that is 55 mph normally except that one 1/2 mile stretch nearby businesses alongside major hwy.,  they were handing out GLOW STICKS to the little ones.  I guess all the revenue they brought in daily for speeding tickets went to some good anyways?

WOW,  and hear I thought over 120 kids was a lot.   250 kids you must have ran out of candy or is that the normal amount of little ones?  I did notice around town this year since was a nice sunny and VERY warm Saturday afternoon  that a lot of other houses lights were NOT on am sure the parents wanted to get out themselves and do something else enjoyable vs. sitting around the entire afternoon getting up and down some 70+ times to just hand out candy.   I was so tempted to put the bowl on front step with sign saying take one,  I am riding cycle.

I don't personally celebrate Halloween but I do dearly enjoy giving candy to children.  I was a little disappointed that the turnout was many fewer than had been in some previous years.  At least all the children of my neighborhood that know us came by.  We've got a lot of chocolate left over.

We haven't had trick or treaters for the last three years.  The neighborhood kids have mostly aged out, and the one family with small children must take them into town, where you don't have to walk a mile to visit twelve homes.  Visiting the senior living center where my mother in law lives is the place to go.  All the residents come down to the lobby with bags of candy...

Have never had one of the urchins show up in the 20 years we've lived on the ranch.  Too far for them to walk between houses I guess.  And the neighborhood has an attitude of MYOB.  Few of our neighbors have any little ones; these aren't "starter homes" around here for the most part. Those that do, I've heard they load up the kids and take them to town where they can walk around. Even the HOA is inactive because folks MYOB and don't cotton to interference from anybody, gov't or HOA's or nosey neighbors. I'm thinking such an atmosphere discourages the idea of trick or treating. I don't have any political signs and few of my neighbors do, and the ones I've seen are all Trump. I do have a couple of 2A signs but you have to get right close to read them - might discourage members of the Free crap Army who I'm inclined to think are more apt to walk their kids around to gather free candy.  After all, they vote for free "candy" from the rest of us who work. I'd think, with everybody armed and the attitude, not smart to do any of the "tricks" like TP'ing a house.  I always buy candy and turn the porch light on just in case but it never happens.  Now I have a basket of candy just like the urchins do.  Too bad I don't eat it; no sweet tooth & diabetic. Well maybe a piece every couple days or so.  It'll be pretty stale before it's gone.  Got a couple chuckles from some of the posts above...

BUT they were all dressed up and made up. Kind of a Last childhood fling before College or Work. Do NOT Know whether or not they still do that. RIDE SAFE.

My wife got all dressed up in her witch outfit to hand out candy and then we only had 30 or so.  Usually have around 100, so plenty of candy left over.  A couple of friends brought the kids around late so got to have a beer with them while the boys ate candy.  Now it will take a couple of days to put the decorations away.  There was also a couple pushing a 3 or 4 month old around getting candy for themselves I'm sure.  My Wife told them to come back when the child was old enough to walk up to the door.  They got kind of pissy with her until I came to the door.  Looked around for broken windows on the truck this morning, but nothing happened.

We only had some 63 little ones punch the door bell, between 5:30 and 8:30.   About normal for our area.  Homes are not tightly packed.  Lots of walking.  The weather was mostly nice, with 45 degree temps and no rain.  Rained earlier in the at and for the last 2 weeks.

When we lived in Wy many years ago I would take the girls trick/treating wearing several layers of clothes and packs, barely keeping warm.   30 degree temps, wind and blowing snow is a real downer.  Only took a block or so before the girls were ready to come home.  Needles to say only had 50-60 kids stop by our home.

Living in Susanville, CA for a few years we would regularly get 200 plus little ones, lived at the top of slope.  Parents would drop off kids at the top and pick them up at the bottom.

Lights on.... come on.  Lights off.... nothing here.

Years back, kids stopped coming for the most part.   I enjoyed the little ones so much, but not the group of Jr Hi boys dressed as gang bangers (all caucasian) carrying baseball bats and acting all surly and delinquent.  Nothing for you guys, buzz off (I do a pretty good surly and delinquent too).  Then the three 11-12yo girls, dressed as slutty, and eight months' pregnant.   Ahhh, speechless, then.... Did your parents see your outfits?  No way, dude.

So now, it's lights off (but very few anyway).

Quick note on telling the older kids they're too old for trick or treating - For those who haven't met me I'm a wee bit on the tall side...

I was 9 or 10, and trick or treating.

One house the dog was barking, and the adult sneered at me "He only barks at kids who are too old to be trick or treating!"

I wasn't 15 or 16, I just happened to be as tall as someone that age.

The fact that I still remember that incident clear as day 35 years later says a lot...

So... just don't be too quick to judge the "older" kids who are still clinging to the last tattered ends of childhood...

...as long as they make SOME effort on a costume!

Our town is predominately senior citizens. Very little trick or treaters. So they close off Main Street and have businesses and organizations passing out candy. What I find sad about it is its mostly teenagers dressed up as hookers and adults dressed as zombies. Maybe only 1/4 of the crowds kids. Things sure have changed since I was a kid. I don't remember anyone over 13 or 14 trick or treating when I was a kid.

just do not be giving them little ones your meds.  I guess locally in a nearby town a pill was in the kids candy stash.  It was turned over to authorities and was a blood pressure pill.  My guess, someone elderly passed out candy and it slipped out of their hand into the kids bag, just a theory.

We usually give out the good stuff being small candy bars of twix, baby ruth,  kit kat, reeses peanut butter cups, and snickers.    Hard to decide some kids stare at them undecided on which ONE to take for way too long.    reeses went first,  then kit kat and twix my 3 favorites as well.

Who cares how old (within reason) or young they are... it's all supposed to be in good fun. Ours was. We had two trick or treats actually. The one at our house... had one kid. First time in 20 years a kid showed up. Thank goodness he was 3, as we didn't have any candy. JoJo got one of our grandson's fruit and juice pouches from the frig.

Two days prior was our 18 month old grandson's first Trick or Treat in his town (next town over). He got the hang of what was going on pretty quick, even though we had to guide him on where to go. We only went to six houses.

I was a very proud grandpa that Jackson said "twik o twe" every time and after he got his candy made sure to say "tan to" (thank you). Pretty good for an 18 month old.

Grandma JoJo sewed his monkey costume, with matching banana candy bag and his mother went as a tree. Didn't have to climb on the tree though, the little bugger walked the whole way.

The only issue we had was, who knew it was going to be 74° on October 29? The poor kid was sweating like crazy at the end.

Once the little bugger realized what was going on... he got pretty excited....

Cute child.  Good time for grandparents and grandchild as well.

I seem to remember a costume about like that in my family a few years ago.  It's a cute costume and well made.

... and after he got his candy made sure to say "tan to" (thank you).

The little girl next door is four.  Her mother tried to teach her to say, "Thank you."  Since her mother was telling her to say, "Thank you" something got messed up in the person of the pronoun.  She says consistently, "Thank me."  It's so cute we haven't bothered to correct her.

A few years ago.....well, maybe a lot of years ago, I did a neat Trick or Treat on my wife. I had picked up a "Lone Ranger" type mask that's just covering the eyes, had an old black hat and black raincoat. Waited until she was occupied at the front door, stripped down and put on the raincoat, mask and hat. Had to wait for more kids to leave, then sneaked out the back and rang the front door bell. When she opened the door, I flashed her along with TRICK OR TREAT!  Best Halloween in years.  crazy2

I copied my trick after what I had read in Reader's Digest a long time ago, some young gal did that to her husband. He was so shocked he jumped back, tripped on a rug, fell back against the TV stand and gashed his head wide open. She then rushed him to the ER where she was pleased that everyone was treating her so nicely, especially the young dr. and various male staff members.
